The Vancouver Whitecaps defeated the Colorado Rapids 1-0 on a goal by Darren Mattocks on Wednesday.

The Colorado Rapids are one of the toughest teams in the MLS at home, but the Vancouver Whitecaps came into Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Independence Day on Wednesday and handed Colorado their third home loss of the season 1-0. As Rapids fans are likely well familiar with by now, the loss was due to a defensive breakdown.

Vancouver's Darren Mattocks scored in the 43rd minute after a defensive miscue put him one-on-one with Colorado goalie Matt Pickens. Mattocks buried the shot, and Vancouver's defense was able to hold on for the victory.

Jaime Castrillon came close on a header early in the game for the Rapids, but it wasn't met to be. Colorado falls to 7-9-1 with 22 points after the loss.
