With the 2012 MLS season almost half over, the Colorado Rapids are languishing in sixth place in the league's Western Conference. That said, the Rapids are well within striking distance of a playoff spot, although they will be battling it out with at least four other teams.
The Rapids are currently in sixth place with 19 points, and only the top 5 teams in each conference advance to the playoffs. With that said, the West's current fifth place team, the Los Angeles Galaxy, is only a single point ahead of Colorado for the last playoff spot. The bad news for the Rapids is that they're closer to the conference's last place team than they are to the fourth place team.
Here are the full Western Conference standings heading into the week:
- San Jose Earthquakes, 33 points
- Real Salt Lake, 32 points
- Vancouver Whitecaps, 26 points
- Seattle Sounders FC, 25 points
- Los Angeles Galaxy, 20 points
- Colorado Rapids, 19 points
- Chivas USA, 19 points
- Portland Timbers, 16 points
- FC Dallas, 14 points
