Colorado vs. USC: Parker Orms ready to tangle with Trojans

Jamie Sabau

USC brings a high-powered passing offense Saturday against the Buffaloes, but Parker Orms will bring an aggressive and physical style to Colorado's secondary.

Colorado defensive back Parker Orms recovered from a hamstring injury early in spring practice in time to hit the field for the Buffaloes in 2012. With the amount of pass-heavy teams Colorado has faced, it was a good thing Orms has been healthy -- and versatile.

Orms can be used as either a safety or nickel back in the Buffs' defense, and that's something head coach Jon Embree appreciates from the junior.

"He is more of a safety type so now that gives us the flexibility," Embree said at his press conference Oct. 16. "We have been playing, basically, nickel teams, so he has had to move around."

Orms is third on the Buffaloes with 33 unassisted tackles, and two of them have gone for losses. Heading into Colorado's game at USC (4:07 p.m. MT kickoff in Los Angeles), Orms and the Buffaloes' secondary will be tested heavily by the Trojans' passing offense.

"He is really physical, he is not afraid, that is part of the reason he hasn't been healthy his entire career," Embree said. "He is really physical, he throws his body around without regard for it, which is good to have in that element position that he plays in the defensive backfield."
