Clarkson vs. Colorado College: Tigers hold on for 5-4 win

Tigers fend off Clarkson rally to open season with a win.

The Colorado College Tigers started the 2012-13 season with a 5-4 win over the Clarkson Golden Knights on Friday night at the World Arena in Colorado Springs, Col.

Colorado College took control of the game in the second period with three goals, including two short-handed goals within a couple of minutes. Sophomore wing Jeff Collett found the net and junior center Rylan Schwartz added another goal to give the Tigers a 4-1 cushion heading into the final period.

The lead expanded to 5-1 early in the final period when sophomore center Archie Skalbeck added another goal which would prove to be the game-winner.

Clarkson rallied for three third-period goals as junior forward Ben Sexton cut the lead to one goal after scoring with 2:34 left in the game. That forced the Tigers to hold off a furious attempt to score by the Golden Knights in the final seconds, but sophomore goalie Josh Thorimbert denied the visitors a chance to tie. Thorimbert finished the game with 21 saves.
