Colorado Football 2012: Concussions Force Defensive Back Will Harlos Off Team

Colorado defensive back Will Harlos suffered another concussion on Monday, and will no longer be able to compete on the field for the Buffaloes going forward.

Deemed unfit to take the field for head coach Jon Embree's Buffaloes after suffering yet another concussion on Monday, Colorado defensive back Will Harlos will no longer be part of the team's active roster, according to the second-year coach.

Embree warned Harlos entering camp that another concussion would signal the end of his time in a black-and-gold uniform, and the young defender was unfortunately unable to avoid another head injury during Monday's practice. Embree did extend an offer for Harlos to remain on scholarship if he medically retires in order to not count against the team's 85-man scholarship limit, but the young defensive back was clearly not too pleased with the news.

"He's taking it hard and rightfully so," Embree told Buffzone.com on Tuesday. "But as I explained to him, we all go out at some point, and for him, it's not like we're saying, 'Oh hey, it's an elbow or a knee and you're not going to walk good.'"

Harlos still can opt to transfer if he believes that his football playing career is not yet over, but it's hard to believe it would be a wise move for a player with a propensity for concussions to jump right back in the mix.
