After landing the No. 6 seed in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, the Colorado Buffaloes will be playing sixth-seeded UNLV to kick things off in the first round. The Buffaloes are Pac-12's automatic bid team, having won the conference tournament championship on Saturday night. The Buffaloes failed to receive an at-large bid last season as a member of the Pac-12.
The Buffaloes were sitting off the bubble of the tournament before they won the conference tournament, but this year Tad Boyle and his team made sure they wouldn't be snubbed. Now, Colorado gets to begin its first tournament appearance since 2003 by playing the Rebels.
The UNLV Rebels went 26-8 and lost in the semifinals of the Mountain West Tournament to the eventual tournament champion New Mexico Lobos. The Rebels defeated the North Carolina Tar Heels in November when that team was No. 1 in the nation. Mike Moser and Chace Stanback combined to average 26.8 points per game this season for the Rebels.
