The Kentucky Wildcats claimed their eighth men's basketball national championship in school history on Monday night as they knocked off the Kansas Jayhawks in the 2012 NCAA Tournament National Championship Game. Their road to the title started in the South Region as the No. 1 seed, and from there they knocked off No. 16 Western Kentucky, No. 8 Iowa St., No. 4 Indiana, No. 3 Baylor, No. 4 Louisville (from the West Region) and then No. 2 Kansas (from the Midwest Region).

After dominating the No. 2 Kansas Jayhawks for the majority of the 2012 NCAA Tournament Championship Game, the No. 1 Kentucky Wildcats needed to sweat things out over the final four minutes before winning, 67-59. The Wildcats lost a double-digit point lead around the four-minute mark and briefly returned to a 10-point lead, but the Jayhawks quickly cut it down to five and stayed within that for the remainder of the game.
Anthony struggled from the field (1-of-10), reaching just six points, but he was a beast defensively with 16 rebounds and six blocks. He dished out the ball for five assists and stole the rock three times. Doron Lamb led the team with 22 points.
Kansas entered halftime in a 41-27 deficit, but won the second half, 32-26. That's not much of a consolation, but that's what happened. Thomas Robinson valiantly fought Kentucky with his 18 points and 17 rebounds and Tyshawn Taylor led the team with 19 points, but the team shot just 35.5 percent from the field.
The Kentucky Wildcats now have eight NCAA Tournament titles.

The 2011-2012 NCAA Basketball season comes to an end on Monday when the No. 1 seed Kentucky Wildcats take on the No. 2 Kansas Jayhawks in the 2012 NCAA Tournament Championship Game. This game, therefore, is a rematch between two coaches who have faced each other in the national championship game. In 2008, Kansas' Bill Self picked up a victory over then Memphis Tigers head coach John Calipari, now at the helm of the Wildcats.

The Jayhawks are on the hunt for their fourth tournament title, which would break the current tie they are in with the Connecticut Huskies. But they would then just enter into a tie with the Duke Blue Devils with four titles. Kentucky, meanwhile, can chip away at UCLA's 11 tournament wins by winning its eighth, last capturing it all in 1998.

The 2012 NCAA Tournament will come to an end on Monday evening with a contest between the No. 1 Kentucky Wildcats and the No. 2 Kansas Jayhawks. Kentucky downed Louisville, 69-61, while Kansas fended off Ohio State, 64-62, on Saturday evening.
For Kentucky, Anthony Davis led the way with 18 points and 14 rebounds. He was 7-of-8 from the field and blocked five of Louisville's shots. His team shot 57.1 percent from the field while Louisville finished at 34.8 percent. Peyton Siva and Chane Behanan scored 11 and 10 points, respectively. Gorgui Deng was the only Cardinals players to reach double-digit rebounds (12), but they beat the Wildcats in that category, 37-32.
The Jayhawks overcame a nine-point halftime deficit, but it wasn't until the last 90 seconds or so that Kansas really felt the game in their hands. The Buckeyes were arguing with the referees on the final inbounds pass, essentially allowing Kansas to win the game uncontested. There was also a lane violation by Aaron Craft that hurt the Buckeyes.
Thomas Robinson finished the game with 19 points and eight rebounds. Jeff Withey finished the game with seven blocks. William Buford led Ohio State with 19 points while Jared Sullinger put in 13 points and 11 rebounds.

On Saturday, the No. 4 Louisville Cardinals take on the No. 1 Kentucky Wildcats in a Final Four matchup for the right to advance to the 2012 NCAA Tournament's National Championship game. These two teams met back on Dec. 31, and the Wildcats pulled out a 69-62 win over the Cardinals, and SB Nation's Mike Rutherford thinks that first matchup tells us a lot about what should happen in the rematch. According to Rutherford, Louisville will once again try to speed up the tempo to force Marquis Teague into turnovers and create a pace where Peyton Siva can thrive.
What Happened In The First Meeting On Dec. 31 -- A 69-62 Win For Kentucky
It's hard to take a considerable amount away from a game in which there were 52 total fouls called and the teams combined to shoot 70 (70!) free-throws, but let's try anyway.
Kentucky gave its poorest shooting performance of the season at 17-of-57 from the field (29.8 percent) and 3-of-16 (18.8 percent) from beyond the arc, but still managed to defeat their in-state rivals thanks in large part to a gigantic rebounding advantage (57-31) and a 32-of-43 performance from the free-throw line...
Biggest Takeaways
...Louisville's game-plan for stopping Kentucky is likely similar to what it was before the first meeting: defend the perimeter, speed Teague up and try to turn him over, allow Siva to create, and make some open shots. Kentucky will again attempt to exploit its advantages in the areas of size and athleticism. They're also not going to let Kuric or Chris Smith beat them with outside shots...

Kentucky had little problem with the No. 3 Baylor Bears on Sunday afternoon, picking up an 82-70 victory. Anthony Davis scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, but he gave everyone a scare when he fell awkwardly on his ankle. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist scored a team-high 19 points. Quincy Acy and Pierre Jackson scored 22 and 21 points, respectively, for Baylor.
Kansas and the No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels played an exciting first half that resulted in a 47-47 halftime score, but the second half couldn't quite live up to that. Kansas pulled away for the 80-67 victory. Tyshawn Taylor led the way for the Jayhawks with 22 point, but all five starters scored at least 10 points. North Carolina wasn't able to compete without Kendall Marshall and that showed in the second half. James Michael McAdoo led the team with 15 points off the bench.
Here is the complete schedule for the Final Four:
No. 1 Kentucky Wildcats vs. No. 4 Louisville Cardinals (4:09 p.m. MT, CBS)
No. 2 Kansas Jayhawks vs. No. 2 Ohio St. Buckeyes (6:49 p.m. MT, CBS)

Saturday's 2012 NCAA bracket predictions were completely wrong since the Louisville Cardinals overcame the Florida Gators with a late run and the Ohio St. Buckeyes took care of the Syracuse Orange. But we still have two more games to decide the other half of the Final Four.
We still have two No. 1 seeds remaining in the Kentucky Wildcats and the North Carolina Tar Heels, but will they join the Michigan St. Spartans and the Syracuse Orange, their No. 1 seed brethren, by moving off the court? Let's predict these outcomes (hopefully with better results than Saturday's):

No. 1 Kentucky vs. No. 3 Baylor, 12:20 p.m. MT, CBS - How can a team with Anthony Davis lose? KENTUCKY
No. 1 North Carolina vs. No. 2 Kansas, 3:05 p.m. MT, CBS - Having Kendall Marshall on the court will help Roy Williams' Tar Heels have a better time against his former team, but North Carolina should pull out the victory here. NORTH CAROLINA

The Louisville Cardinals and the Ohio St. Buckeyes booked trips to the Final Four in New Orleans, LA, with victories over the Florida Gators and the Syracuse Orange on Saturday night, but they are waiting until Sunday afternoon to find out who they will face down in the bayou.
Anthony Davis and the No. 1 Kentucky Wildcats will look to defeat the No. 3 Baylor Bears for the South Region title. The Wildcats have cruised to victories over Western Kentucky, Iowa State and Indiana to reach this point. The Bears had a slightly tougher time to reach this point, as South Dakota State caught them off guard in the first game of the tournament while Brady Heslip's nine three-pointers pushed them past Colorado. They then escaped on Friday with a 75-70 victory over Xavier.
In the final game of the day, the No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels face the No. 2 Kansas Jayhawks in the Midwest Region final. The big story here is whether point guard Kendall Marshall will play for the Tar Heels. He broke his wrist last week and missed Friday's game against the Ohio Bobcats. However, he practiced on Saturday, but his status was left as questionable after that. Stilman White would start in place of Marshall again if the wrist injury prevents him from taking the court.

Louisville used a 23-8 run to defeat the No. 7 Florida Gators, 72-68. After losing the first half, 41-33, the Cardinals' second half run powered them to the victory on a 39-27 advantage in the second half. Florida had all five of its starters score at least 11 points, but they received just five points from its bench players. For the Cardinals, Russ Smith powered the team with 19 points from the bench while Chane Behanan scored 17 points. All other scorers failed to stop 10 points.
Ohio State picked up a 77-70 victory over the No. 1 Syracuse Orange but let a 10-point lead in the second half slip away before recovering during the final minutes of play. Jared Sullinger led the Buckeyes with 19 points and was followed by Lenzelle Smith Jr.'s 18 points. William Buford and Deshaun Thomas each pulled down nine rebounds.
The Cardinals will play the winner of Baylor-Kentucky, and Ohio State plays the winner of North Carolina-Kansas.

It's time for the last half of the Sweet 16 games in the 2012 NCAA Tournament to take place. On Thursday night, Syracuse, Louisville, Ohio State and Florida all advanced to the Elite Eight. On Friday night, we could potentially have three double-digit seeds advance to the next round, but will any of them.
Predictions for these games will be based on which team has the fewest letters in its university name:
No. 3 Baylor Bears vs. No. 10 Xavier Musketeers (Atlanta): 5:15 p.m. MT on CBS - Both Baylor and Xavier are six letters long, which must send us to a tie-breaker. The shorter nickname is Bears, meaning BAYLOR wins this game.

No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels vs. No. 13 Ohio Bobcats (St. Louis): 5:47 p.m. MT on TBS - Ohio pulls off the upset, joining the Ohio St. Buckeyes in the Elite Eight. OHIO

The 2012 NCAA Tournament has had its share of close games over the first few rounds, but no classic buzzer-beating dramatics that everyone has come to expect, and that stayed true over the course of Sunday's slate. Michigan State and Kansas were given tough tests by Saint Louis and Purdue, respectively, but both survived and advanced. North Carolina rolled past Creighton but may have lost point guard Kendall Marshall -- he suffered a fractured wrist.
Three double-digit seeds -- NC State, Ohio and Xavier -- punched their tickets to the next round on Sunday, but the magic ended for the 15-seeds.
Sunday's results:
East Region
No.6 Cincinnati 62, No. 3 Florida State 56
South Region
No. 10 Xavier 70, No. 15 Lehigh 58
Midwest Region
No. 11 NC State 66, No. 3 Georgetown 63

After a wild set of games on Friday that included upset victories for two No. 15 seeds, the Lehigh Hawks and the Norfolk St. Spartans, Saturday's games were relatively tame and uninteresting. But Lehigh and Norfolk State are back on the court on Sunday looking to become Cinderella this year, especially after the VCU Rams lost on Saturday.
Let's predict the games based on whether a team's mascot is human or not. Humans win out, but if the mascots are not human the winner is determined in which would win in a fight.

If you didn't know who Brady Heslip was before Saturday night, well, you do now. The Baylor Bears guard scored 27 points, all of those points coming on nine three-pointers, to defeat the Colorado Buffaloes, 80-63.
The Buffaloes entered the second half down by two points, 37-35, but had taken a 57-56 lead midway through the second half. For the next two-and-one-half minutes the Bears and the Buffaloes battled closely, but after Austin Dufault's layup closed the deficit to one point, 61-60, Baylor went on a 19-3 run to end the game. The Bears made four three-pointers during that stretch, including two by Heslip.
Colorado's Askia Booker led the team with 14 points while Andre Roberson added 13 points and eight rebounds. Carlon Brown Dufault and Carlon Brown added 14 and 13 points, respectively.
The Bears received solid performances outside of Heslip's sharpshooting: Pierre Jackson scored 15 points and grabbed 10 assists; Quincy Acy added seven points and 10 rebounds; and the bench put in 16 points.
Colorado finishes the season with a 24-11 record, a 1-1 trip to the NCAA Tournament and a Pac-12 Tournament title.

We're down to 32 teams in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, and that means even more high drama. From Lehigh's upset over Duke to Norfolk State's over Missouri, the Round of 64 held great underdog victories on Friday, but Saturday's slate of games will feature Thursday's winners, which didn't have that many great upsets besides No. 11 Colorado and No. 12 Virginia Commonwealth advancing.
So, let's base Saturday's predictions on how close the first letter of each school's proper name is to the first letter of the TV station the game will be on:
Syracuse vs. Kansas State, 10:15 a.m. MT, CBS - Down goes Syracuse, the No. 1 seed. And to think, the UNC Asheville Bulldogs almost did this on Thursday. KANSAS STATE
Ohio State vs. Gonzaga, 12:45 p.m. MT, CBS - Gonzaga makes it a second upset to start the day. GONZAGA
Marquette vs. Murray State, 3:15 p.m. MT, CBS - We need to go to the second letter here because of the tie, which means Marquette takes this one. MARQUETTE

Indiana vs. Virginia Commonwealth, 5:10 p.m. MT, TBS - VCU pulls off another upset! VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH
Kentucky vs. Iowa State, 5:45 p.m. MT, CBS - Do not mess with the force of nature that is a cyclone. IOWA STATE
Baylor vs. Colorado, 6:40 p.m. MT, TNT - So far, yet so close. Colorado barely edges Baylor on Saturday night. COLORADO
Louisville vs. New Mexico, 7:40 p.m MT, TBS - New Mexico at least provides a better performance for a Mountain West team than the other three did. NEW MEXICO

Or maybe the Colorado Buffaloes will continue its run through March and defeat the No. 3 Baylor Bears on Saturday. Predict it all when you fill out the next round of the bracket!

The No. 11 Colorado Buffaloes have advance to the Round of 32 following Thursday's victory over the No. 6 UNLV Rebels, 68-64. The Buffaloes advanced farther into the bracket then in their last appearance during 2003 when they lost as a No. 10 seed to the No. 7 Michigan St. Spartans, 79-64, in the first round.
Colorado had a 36-25 lead after the first half of the game and had as much as a 20-point lead in the second half before the Rebels made a late run. UNLV cut the lead to just three points, 67-64, with eight seconds left in the game after a Chace Stanback three-pointer, but Spencer Dinwiddie made one of two free throws to secure the victory with a cushion. Oscar Bellfield threw up a three at the buzzer, but it wouldn't have been enough to change the game.
Andre Roberson put in 12 points and 16 rebounds, the only double-double of the game, for the Buffs, but Askia Booker had a game-high 16 points. Austin Dufault and Carlon Brown put in 14 and 12 points, respectively.
UNLV managed to shoot just 32.4 percent from the field, lost the rebounding battle (46-33) and made just nine of 17 free throws. Anthony Marshall had a team-high 15 points while Mike Moser added 10 points and pulled down nine boards.
The Buffs will play the No. 3 Baylor Bears on Saturday.

The Montana Grizzlies enter the NCAA Tournament as winners of 14 straight and champions of the Big Sky Tournament. The Grizzlies' impressive season has earned them a No. 13 seed and date with the Wisconsin Badgers on Thursday in the East Region.
The Grizzlies are led by junior guard Will Cherry, who enters averaging a team-high 16 points per game. Swing man Kareer Jamar has also been terrific for Montana in his sophomore season. Jamar enters the NCAA Tournament averaging 13.8 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game.
If Montana is to pull the upset over Wisconsin, they'd be wise to stop Jordan Taylor. The Badgers' senior point guard enters averaging 14.7 points per contest, a team-high.

The 2012 NCAA Tournament kicks off on Thursday afternoon with its first Round of 64 game, which will be a matchup between the No. 6 Murray St. Racers (30-1) and the No. 11 Colorado St. Rams (20-11). The Rams made it into the tournament as the fourth team from the Mountain West Conference and have been mentioned as an overrated team because of an 0-6 away conference record and a high strength of schedule rating due to having the Duke Blue Devils on it. It's time to prove them wrong.

The Rams are led by Wes Eikmeier (15.6 points) and Dorian Green (13.5 points) on offense and by Pierce Hornung (8.4 rebounds) and Greg Smith (5.3 rebounds) on defense. However, the latter player, Smith, did miss the Mountain West Tournament and expects to play in this game.
The Racers opened up the season with 23 straight victories before losing the dream of an undefeated team. But that one loss was the only blip on the schedule, as the team won seven straight games after that loss, including the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Championship. Will Isaiah Canaan's 19.2 points and Donte Poole's 14.2 points be too much for the Rams to handle?

The games begin on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. MT when the No. 6 Murray St. Racers tip-off against the No. 11 Colorado St. Rams. The First Four, also known as the first round, of the 2012 NCAA Tournament concludes in Dayton, OH, on Wednesday evening with two more games. On Tuesday night, the No. 16 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers and the No. 14 BYU Cougars each pulled off an impressive comeback victory. The Hilltoppers overcame a 16-point deficit with five minutes left in the game to defeat the Miss Valley St Devils while the Cougars turned a 25-point deficit into a 31-point swing to defeat the Iona Gaels.
Will Day 2 prove to be just as exciting? Vermont and Lamar battle as 16 seeds for the right to face the No.1 North Carolina Tar Heels. California and South Florida fight for a 12 seed and the right to face the No. 12 Temple Owls.

The Final Four put its first two teams into the 2012 NCAA Tournament on a Tuesday evening when the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers and the BYU Cougars won their play-in games. The Hilltoppers remain in the tournament as the only team with a losing record, but an upset over the No. 1 Kentucky Wildcats and then two more wins would guarantee them at least a .500 record when all is said and done.

The Hilltoppers picked up a No. 16 seed by defeating the Miss Valley St Delta Devils, 59-58, in the first game of the day. Western Kentucky was down by 16 points with five minutes left in the game and made a furious charge to comeback. T.J. Price led the effort and had a three-point play with 33 seconds left to break a 54-54 tie. Derrick Gordon added 11 points and 11 rebounds while George Fant had nine points and 11 rebounds.
BYU had been down by 25 points during the first half to the Iona Gaels, but a second-half surge had them in the lead with less than two minutes left in the game. They picked up a 78-72 victory to complete the 31-point swing. The Gaels scored just 17 points in the second half after opening up with 55 in the first 20 minutes.

The No. 11 Colorado St. Rams open their 2012 NCAA Tournament on Thursday when they face the No. 6 Murray St. Racers. The Racers have one of the top scorers in the nation with Isaiah Canaan and his 19.2 points per game, but he won't be the only player the Rams will need to watch out for. In a piece written before the field for this year's tournament was announced, ESPN named Murray State's Donte Poole a possible Giant Killer:

You know about Canaan, but what about his backcourt buddy, Poole? He fuels the Racers' pressure D with 2.0 spg. The bigger question will be whether Poole and Murray State even get to flex their Giant Killers muscles, or whether they will be seeded too highly to qualify for a slingshot.
Poole averages 14.2 point per game this season, as well. If Poole, Canaan and the Racers do defeat the Rams in projected fashion, they could face the No. 3 Marquette Golden Eagles in the next round and the No. 2 Missouri Tigers in the Sweet 16.

The 2012 NCAA Tournament starts with First Four matchups on Tuesday, and SB Nation's Matt Ufford sat down with Nick Fasulo of searchingforbillyedelin.com to break down the South bracket in greater detail. The Kentucky Wildcats are the clear favorite in the South, and Fasulo thinks they should be penciled into the Final Four, but the rest of the action is where things get really interesting.
In terms of upsets, Fasulo is high on the UNLV Runnin' Rebels, which is obviously bad news for fans of the Colorado Buffaloes -- as the No. 11 Buffaloes take on No. 6 UNLV in Round of 64. How much does he like the Runnin' Rebels? An upset over the Baylor Bears in the Round of 32 is predicted, and another shocker against the Duke Blue Devils is bandied about as well. The 2012 NCAA Tournament gets underway with its First Four games on Tuesday evening, the second year of this rather extraneous round of games. These games are taking place in Dayton, OH. The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers and the Miss Valley St Delta Devils play in the first game for a spot as the No. 16 team that plays the No. 1 Kentucky Wildcats in the second round. The Iona Gaels and the BYU Cougars fight for a No. 14 spot and a game against the No. 3 Marquette Golden Eagles.

The 2012 NCAA Tournament might not be a long-term spot for the Colorado Buffaloes and the Colorado St. Rams this year -- well, that is if we believe SB Nation's Bill Connelly and his NCAA Bracket Predictions. He has both teams dropping out in their first games, the Buffs to the UNLV Rebels and the Rams to the Murray St. Racers.

The Rams merit a paragraph from Connelly to go over how overrated the Rams are this season. Those are all very valid points about the road schedule and the strength of schedule relying on the contest against the Duke Blue Devils. But he doesn't completely write the Rams off:
Of course, in Murray State, they drew the 11th-best team in the region (according to Pomeroy), so they may advance to the Round of 32 regardless.
So overrated, the Rams are underrated. Is that how it works? Time for the Rams to show why they deserve respect.

After a successful regular season, the Montana Grizzlies have landed the No. 13 seed in the East region for the 2012 NCAA Tournament, as the selection committee announced on Sunday. The Grizzlies are the only Big Sky team to get a bid, since they won the conference tournament championship on Wednesday.

If the Grizzlies are able to pull off an upset in the opening round, they could eventually face the likes of Syracuse or Ohio State, the region's top-two seeds, in later rounds.

Maybe there's something special about writing out a bracket as the announcement is made instead of waiting for a typed one to appear online. There's a certain sense of accomplishment in doing it, because it's your own bracket. Sure, if you printed out one that has the opening games typed in you still write it on it, but it's not yours.
Or maybe this is the official bracket that you use to chart the actual outcome of the tournament while you use printed ones to make all those wild guesses. However you like to make a bracket, a blank one is already available.

The Colorado St. Rams are less than an hour away from finding out where they will land in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, a place they have not visited since the 2002-2003 season. Joe Lunardi's Bracketology has the Buffs making the Midwest region as a No. 12 seed against the Murray St. Racers, a team that went 30-1. The Rams make the tournament in the South region as a No. 12 seed, facing the Wichita St. Shockers. This seems about right for each team, though it's possible either could be bumped up to an 11 seed.
