The top running backs for the 2012 NFL Draft arrived in Indianapolis on Thursday for the Combine and had the bare minimum to do upon arrival, just registering and get some X-rays done. On Friday, those running backs, including Boise State's Doug Martin and former Colorado Buffaloes player Darrell Scott, had their measurements done.
Martin came in, as expected, at 5 feet 9 and 223 pounds. This puts him among the shortest running backs in Indianapolis, but Oregon's LaMichael James leads a group of running backs that stand 5 feet 8. None of them is expected to be drafted as high as Martin, projected by some analysts as a late first-round draft pick. James could, if all goes well for him, wind up as a second round pick, but we'll need to see how he does in his later workouts at the Combine and then at his Pro Day.
Scott, who finished his career with the South Florida Bulls, checked in at 6 feet and 230 pounds. Scott transferred to South Florida in 2010 after it was clear that he was going to fight for playing time during the 2009 season. He left school early for the NFL.
