The Colorado Buffaloes hadn't won a road game since Oct. 27, 2007 when they defeated the Texas Tech Red Raiders, some 24 games ago. But that all ended on Friday afternoon with a 17-14 victory over the Utah Utes. Utah kicker Coleman Petersen missed a 48-yard field goal to tie the game with just seconds left on the clock. It was his third miss of the game.
Until the second half of the game, the Buffaloes were the dominant team that just couldn't find the endzone. But over the first three drives of the second half, the Buffs were able to wedge a touchdown in between two Utah scores to maintain the lead.
Before the Petersen missed the field goal, the Utes had started the drive after Darragh O'Neill hit an 18-yard punt from the Utah 47-yard line. The Buffs defense held strong and forced the field goal attempt that failed.
For the Colorado Buffaloes, they finish the season on a one-game winning streak and the seniors have their first-ever road win. For Utah, the loss ends their regular season and gives the UCLA Bruins the Pac-12 South title.

The Utah Utes aren't going down without a fight, scoring a touchdown right after the Colorado Buffaloes did. Late in the third quarter, the Utes are down, 17-14.
The Utes had a short field to start the third drive of the quarter, working from their own 42-yard line. Jon Hays opened it up with a 15-yard pass to put the team into Colorado territory. Tauni Vakapuna then came up with 22 yards over the next three running plays to bring the team to the 21-yard line. After Shawn Asiata had a one-yard run, Jon Hays completed back-to-back passes for 20 yards, including a six-yard touchdown pass to Asiata. Coleman Petersen added the extra point to make it a three-point game.

The Colorado Buffaloes answered the Utah Utes touchdown for touchdown in the opening minutes of the third quarter to take a 17-7 lead. Tyler Hansen and Tony Jones brought the Buffs down the field, a 16-yard pass to Toney Clemons bringing the ball into Utes territory. Hansen then followed that with a 34 yard pass to Clemons, falling a yard short of the endzone.
Colorado did challenge that play, believing Clemons wound up in the endzone. The refs confirmed the ruling on the field, though they could have taken a yard or two off the play since Clemons' knee appeared to go down earlier than thought. However, the ball was placed at the one-yard line, giving the Buffs a short space to punch the ball in for the lead. They did when Hansen found Evan Harrington for the catch
The drive took 11 plays for 82 yards and saw 5:35 come off the clock.

The Utah Utes are desperately attempting to comeback against the Colorado Buffaloes on Friday afternoon. After receiving the ball to start the second half of the game, the Utes used that drive to put a touchdown on the scoreboard.
Starting at its own 32-yard line, Utah drove 68 yards on 11 plays to see Tauni Vakapuna rush into the end zone for the three-yard score. Jon Hays threw a 26-yard pass on 3rd-and-10 to keep the drive alive and place it into Colorado territory. Vakapuna replaced John White IV during the drive and picked up the last 25 yards on four rushes to get the score.
The Utes are still very much alive.

The Colorado Buffaloes have dominated the Utah Utes for the first half of their Friday showdown in the "Rumble in the Rockies," but at halftime the Buffs lead, 10-0. But that close score isn't something Utah wants since a loss ensures that they can't win the Pac-12 South.
Tyler Hansen led the Buffs on a 12-play, 80-yard scoring drive to start the game when he found the endzone on a one-yard run. But after that, scoring was hard to come by. Will Oliver did kick a 23-yard field goal midway through the second quarter. In the first quarter, the Buffs wasted a 29-yard Tyler Hansen pass when Toney Clemons fumbled the ball into Utah's endzone, providing the Utes with possession.
But Utah has struggled offensively throughout the first half. With roughly three minutes left in the half, the Utes finally picked up a first down. They have 39 total yards compared to Colorado's 254. Will things balance out in the second half to make this a very tight finish?

After the Colorado Buffaloes took a 7-0 at the end of the first drive of the game, the Utah Utes have been unable to score. The Buffs have also failed to add to the team's lead early into the second quarter.
Colorado wasted a drive deep into Utah's territory when Toney Clemons, who caught a pass from Tyler Hansen for 29 yards, fumbled the ball into the Utah endzone, giving possession to the Utes. Utah couldn't do anything on the drive and punted the ball for 66 yards. The Buffs failed to gain any traction and had a horrible 35-yard punt from their own 21-yard line. Utah returned it 29 yards to Colorado's 27-yard line.
The Utes moved the ball just two yards before attempting a 42-yard field goal, which Coleman Petersen missed. The game was left at 7-0.
Colorado outgained Utah offensively 185 yards to 17 in the first quarter.

The Colorado Buffaloes needed a good start against the Utah Utes on Friday if they wanted to compete in the game, and that they did. The Buffs took the opening drive 80 yards on 12 plays to scored a touchdown. Quarterback Tyler Hansen found the end zone on a one-yard run for the touchdown, his third rushing touchdown of the season, for the 7-0 lead.
Hansen found Paul Richardson twice on the drive for a total of 28 yards, 19 on one play. Hansen also found Ryan Deehan for a 20-yard pass play that put the team at the Utes' 11-yard line. Running back Rodney Stewart picked up 10 yards on the ground before Hansen took the ball in for the score. That touchdown run was really more like six inches than one yard.

The Colorado Buffaloes and the Utah Utes begin the "Rumble in the Rockies" on Friday afternoon in what should become the rivalry game for each team. But both teams have a player that will likely miss the game. According to ESPN's Ted Miller, the Buffs have listed safety Anthony Perkins as questionable with an ankle injury. Perkins is a senior and a team captain. He didn't sound too optimistic about his chances to play when asked earlier in the week (via the Denver Post).
For the Utes, linebacker Jacoby Hale is doubtful with a concussion. The redshirt freshman will likely miss this game, but there's always the chance that he will be able to play in the team's bowl game.

Conference realignment can lead to there being some unfamiliar bedfellows, and though the states of Colorado and Utah border each other, both states' flagship universities haven't met on the football field since 1962, when the Utes took home a 37-21 victory. There isn't much of a rivalry between the two schools, even though it feels like there should be one, and so both schools' fanbases are trying to start one up in jest.
On Oct. 22, the Utes were 3-4 on the year and 0-4 in the conference, but that tune has changed, and they'll enter the Colorado game with an overall record of 7-4 and a conference record of 4-4. A victory over Colorado would help cap off a massive mid-season turn around and would allow the Utes to finish with a winning conference record in their inaugural season in the Pac-12. For the Buffaloes, they would certainly like to finish the season with a victory, and with both teams beginning to fight for the same recruits, Friday's game could be an important territorial match up.
Game date, time: 1:30 pm MT, Friday, Nov. 25
Location: Rice-Eccles Stadium, Salt Lake City, Utah
TV channel: Fox Sports Net
Spread: Utah favored by 22
Series history: Colorado leads, 30-24-3

The Colorado Buffaloes and the Utah Utes haven't played each other since Sept. 22, 1962, nearly 50 years ago. The Buffs lost that game, 21-37, in Utah. On Friday, the two teams will take the gridiron as members of the Pac-12 and look to develop a Rocky Mountains rivalry. In fact, it's already being hailed as the "Rumble in the Rockies."
Colorado wants to ignite this rivalry in order to take the place of the now-defunct rivalry the school had with the Nebraska Cornhuskers, who departed for the Big Ten in 2011. Colorado and Nebraska annually played the day after Thanksgiving once the school' joined the Big 12 in 1996.
Colorado can upset Utah's hopes of making the Pac-12 championship game, so maybe they can start on that rivalry right away. Deny the Utes a possibility at winning the Pac-12 championship and the BCS bowl berth that goes with it? Sounds like a good way for Jon Embree, his seniors and the rest of the team to close out the season.

The Utah Utes enter Friday's game as the heavy favorites to beat the Buffaloes. The only question that seems to remain is how much they will beat them by?
