With the NHL lockout poised to go on for weeks, if not months, some players are heading overseas to play. Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov is one of them, having signed with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in the KHL. The Russian just recently joined up with the team and is expected to make his debut shortly.

At just 24 years old and with just one full NHL season under his bet, any experience is probably good experience for Varlamov. While there is obviously the risk of injury, playing in the KHL bodes well for him and by extension, the Avs. A young player sitting around for a long time when he needs ice time doesn't benefit anyone.
