Stay connected for news and updates

The Colorado Avalanche play the Phoenix Coyotes on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The Colorado Avalanche enter Monday game with the Phoenix Coyotes having defeated the Dallas Stars on the road over the weekend. Paul Stastny netted the game-winner on a power play in the third period for the 2-1 victory. They stay on the road to face the Phoenix Coyotes, who are on a three-game losing streak.

The Avalanche will face the Coyotes on the road for the first time this season after splitting the first two games at the Pepsi Center. For Colorado, a victory would mean into the eight spot in the Western Conference standings, displacing the Minnesota Wild from that spot.

The Coyotes aren't too far behind the Avalanche, but they have 47 points to Colorado's 50. Phoenix hasn't been home since Jan. 7, a day they beat the New York Islanders, 5-1. Since then Phoenix has dropped shootouts to the New York Rangers and the Detroit Red Wings and a 4-3 decision to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night.
