Stay connected for news and updates

The Colorado Avalanche lost, 4-0, to the Chicago Blackhawks, preventing a season sweep of the defending Stanley Cup champions. Chicago's Troy Brouwer scored at 7:08 in the first period to open the scoring, and then 40 seconds later Dave Bolland added a second goal.

Fernando Pisani gave the Blackhawks a 3-0 lead after second-period goal. Jack Skille tallied the last goal of the game at 8:36 in the third period.

The Avalanche managed 24 shots, but goalie Corey Crawford put up a wall around the goal and finished a shutout on the board. Peter Budaj started his second game in a row over the healthy Craig Anderson and allowed four goals on 31 shots.

Colorado (22-16-6, 50 points) has yet to win back-to-back games since a six-game winning streak during the middle of December. They visit the Minnesota Wild on Friday, Jan. 14. The puck drops in the Xcel Energy Center at 6:00 p.m. MT.
