The Boise State Broncos had little trouble with the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on Saturday, building a 30-0 lead on their way to a 40-14 win in Hattiesburg, Miss. Broncos quarterback Joe Southwick had a solid day, completing 18 of 27 passes for 195 yards and three touchdowns, but it was the Boise State defense that stole the show on Saturday.
The Broncos forced five turnovers against the Golden Eagles, three fumbles and two interceptions, which set the Boise State offense up for easy scores all afternoon long. The five forced turnovers came one week after the Broncos capitalized on three New Mexico fumbles to escape with a 32-29 victory.
SB Nation's Boise State blog One Bronco Nation Under God listed its top five plays from the game, and it seems only fitting a defensive play would be ranked No. 1:
1. Tyler Gray's 34-yard interception return
The true freshman linebacker turned invisible and picked off a Ricky Lloyd pass intended for, nearest I could tell, Gray. He took the pick back to the Southern Miss 11-yard line where Matt Miller scored one play later. Gray's pick came at the end of an underwhelming first quarter for the Broncos, one in which Southwick got picked and SoMiss missed an easy field goal. The game turned on this interception, so I guess we should all thank Ricky Lloyd for being so generous and blind.
Boise State, now 4-1 on the year, will host the Fresno State Bulldogs next Saturday at Bronco Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. MT.

It's been the same story for the entire game between the Boise St. Broncos and Southern Miss. Golden Eagles, with he Broncos adding to their point total. Their lead stayed the same though, as Southern Miss. finally got on the board themselves, leaving the third quarter with a score of 30-7.
The Broncos added a D.J. Harper 19-yard touchdown run with 12:49 remaining in the third quarter to increase their lead to 30-0. The Golden Eagles finally put together some points of their own with 4:10 remaining in the third on an Anthony Alford 4-yard touchdown run to make it 30-7.
The Golden Eagles added to their turnovers total with their fifth of the day, this time a fumble. That's three lost fumbles and two interceptions thrown by the Golden Eagles on a day where they continue to outgain the Broncos, but miscues have thwarted any sort of momentum they try to create.
Broncos quarterback Joe Southwick has 172 yards passing with two touchdowns and one interception, while Southern Miss. quarterback Ricky Lloyd has 144 yards and two interceptions.

Michael Frisina would add a 21-yard field goal with 9:51 remaining before the Broncos closed the half with a late 33-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Joe Southwick to Chris Potter to make it 23-0.
This game is a statistical anomaly so far as the offensive numbers say that Southern Miss should be winning. The Broncos have been outgained overall (264 to 203), especially on the ground (120 to 61). But Southern Miss has four penalties for 52 yards and four turnovers, including two interceptions thrown by quarterback Ricky Lloyd and two lost fumbles.
