Miami (OH) Vs. Boise State 2012: Broncos Offense Awakens In 39-12 Blowout Of RedHawks

After a season-opening 17-13 loss to the Michigan State Spartans on Aug. 31, the Boise State Broncos bounced back in a big way on Saturday with a 39-12 win over the Miami (OH) RedHawks.

Boise State running back D.J. Harper was the star of the game, rushing for 173 yards and three touchdowns on just 18 carries, and quarterback Joe Southwick rebounded from his subpar opener to complete 23 of 30 passes for 295 yards and two touchdowns, with one interception.

The gang at SB Nation's One Bronco Nation Under God blog was happy to see the Boise State offense back on track, but they did note some areas of improvement despite the easy victory:

On third glance

The offense was leaps and bounds better than it was against Michigan State, but you and I know that Chris Petersen will find coaching points aplenty. First, turnovers. Second, red zone scoring (the Broncos were 0-for-2 to start the game). Third, eh, let's forget about No. 1 and No. 2 for now and just celebrate the fact that the Broncos are back in the win column and the offense works again.

The Broncos next face the BYU Cougars on Thursday night. BYU was upset on Saturday, 24-21, by the Utah Utes.
