2012 NFL Supplemental Draft: Time, Schedule, Order And More

The NFL Supplemental Draft has very few success stories in its history. The two most prominent recent players to be selected in that fashion were Caleb King and Terrelle Pryor, neither of which has had any impact in the NFL yet. This year's supplemental draft features one prominent player: Baylor Bears WR Josh Gordon. Gordon was a teammate of first round picks Robert Griffin III and Kendall Wright, but is expected to be selected with a mid-round pick in this draft.

So, what is the order of the supplemental draft? Well, it's a lottery of sorts. All of the teams in the NFL are put into three groups: teams that won six or fewer games, teams that won more than six games but missed the playoffs and teams that made the playoffs. Within those three groups, the teams are ordered via a lottery, with teams with worse records having increasingly more balls in the pot.

From there, teams submit electronic bids for players based on which round they would select the player. The team with the highest bid is awarded the player, with ties being broken based on the tier and lottery system. If a team's bid is accepted, they lose the corresponding pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

The groupings for this year's lottery, in increasing number of wins, are as follows:
