Jimmy Lake Becomes New Defensive Backs Coach And Defensive Pass Game Coordinator At Boise State

As reported by the official Boise State athletics Twitter feed, Broncos head football coach Chris Petersen has added Jimmy Lake to his coaching staff.

Lake has five years of coaching experience in the NFL and spent the last four years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; he'd spent the last two seasons as the Bucs' defensive backs coach.

Lake got his start in coaching at Eastern Washington and also spent time at the University of Washington and Montana State before moving on to coach in the NFL. He coached defensive backs throughout that time.

Boise State Promotes Robert Prince To OC Following Brent Pease's Departure

The Boise St. Broncos didn't look far to find its new offensive coordinator. Robert Prince, wide receivers coach, has now added offensive coordinator to his duties, reports Brian Murphy of the Idaho Statesman. Prince was first mentioned as Brent Pease's replacement last week when reports surfaced that Pease was heading to an SEC school, which turned out to be the Florida Gators.

Prince had been a coach for Boise State in 2001-2003 before he left for a variety of jobs in the NFL. He spent his last season in the NFL coaching wide receivers for the Seattle Seahawks in 2009, but Jim Mora and his entire coaching staff was let go after one year on the job. Prince then moved to the Colorado Buffaloes, coaching receivers there as well. It was his second stint working for coach Dan Hawkins, who previously coached at Boise State. Hawkins was fired in 2010 and Jon Embree brought in his own staff.

Boise State Loses Jeff Choate To Mike Leach's Washington State, According To Report

On the same day that the Boise St. Broncos lost offensive coordinator Brent Pease to the Florida Gators, it appears that that head coach Chris Petersen will be down another coach as well. Special teams coach Jeff Choate will move over to Mike Leach's Washington St. Cougars staff, according to the Idaho Satesman's Chadd Cripe.

Choate will likely assume a different position over in Pullman since Eric Russell has reportedly taken over the special teams coach position after he left the Tennessee Volunteers. Cripe believes Choate could be the linebackers coach, a position Choate also coached for the Broncos.

Petersen has just three coaches on his staff who remain from when he took over the Broncos in 2006. Replacements for both positions have not yet been announced.

Brent Pease Named Florida Gators Offensive Coordinator

After much speculation, Boise State Broncos offensive coordinator Brent Pease has officially accepted the same job at the University of Florida. Pease had been with the Broncos since 2006, when he started in Boise as the wide receivers coach, a position that he held until last season, when he was promoted to offensive coordinator. Pease has also previously been the offensive coordinator for the Kentucky Wildcats and Baylor Bears.

In 2011, the Broncos averaged 481.3 yards and 44.2 points per game, good for ninth and fifth in the country, respectively. Prior to the 2011 season, Pease briefly accepted the offensive coordinator position for the Indiana Hoosiers, before reneging on that agreement when he was offered the same job at Boise State after the Broncos lost then-offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin to the Texas Longhorns.

The Broncos will now be naming a new offensive coordinator for the second year in a row, and if recent history is any indication, head coach Chris Petersen will promote from within. Logical candidates would include Robert Prince, the team's current wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator, and Chris Strausser, the offensive line coach and run game coordinator.

Brent Pease Expected To Be Named Florida Offensive Coordinator, According To Report

Boise State Broncos offensive coordinator Brent Pease is expected to be named the new Florida Gators offensive coordinator, according to a report by Bob Redman of Scout.com.

Sources have shared with FightinGators.com that Boise State offensive coordinator Brent Pease is expected to be named Florida's offensive coordinator in the very near future replacing the departed Charlie Weis. Pease comes to Florida with four years of playing experience in the NFL and ten years of coaching experience in division one football with eight seasons as an offensive coordinator.

Pease has had stops as the offensive coordinator for the Kentucky Wildcats in 2001 and with the Baylor Bears from 2003 to 2005 before heading to Boise State. Under Pease, Boise State has ranked as one of the top offenses in the country passing the football and scoring points. In the 2011 season, the Broncos finished 11th in the country passing the football and fifth in the country in scoring with 44.3 points per game. Both were areas where the Gators struggled in 2011 under offensive coordinator Charlie Weis.

Andy Hutchins of SB Nation's Florida blog Alligator Army gives his take on the potential hire of Pease as offensive coordinator:

My guess: If news is leaking now and Pease's supposed meeting with Alabama's Nick Saban was coming on Tuesday, Pease has likely already verbally agreed to a deal with Florida, and the GatorZone staff is writing up its features on him for Tuesday as I type. (Redman writes that it is unlikely Pease will have that meeting.)

If so, I think it's a wonderful hire for Muschamp, and look forward to explaining why to all of you

Brent Pease To Florida Not Done Deal

Boise St. broncos offensive coordinator Brent Pease isn't headed to the Florida Gators quite yet, despite initial reports that it was the decision. Pease is in Gainesville on Friday to talk with Will Muschamp, Florida's head coach, reports Pat Dooley of the Gainesville Sun, and will follow that up on Tuesday by visiting Alabama head coach Nick Saban. Alabama is playing in the BCS National Title Game on Monday night.

Dooley also reports that he received a text from Muschamp that read: "Nothing done." However this turns out, it appears that nothing will turn Pease back to Boise State.

Pease has been a coach with the Broncos since 2006, serving as wide receivers coach in his first season. He moved to assistant head coach and wide receivers coach in 2007 and was elevated to offensive coordinator for the 2011 season.
