2012 NFL Draft: Doug Martin Raises Stock After Senior Bowl, According To SI's Tony Pauline

The 2012 Senior Bowl has come and gone and now it's time for the 2012 NFL Combine and pro day workouts to come before we have the big three-day event for the 2012 NFL Draft. But who helped raise their draft stock following Saturday's performances in the Senior Bowl? Boise St. Broncos running back Doug Martin was impressive all throughout practice and then he followed that up with a solid performance in the actual game. Sports Illustrated's Tony Pauline names Martin as one of his draft risers following the game:

Martin had several nice runs during the game, but its [sic] the little things he did well that made him stand out. In the first quarter Martin did a terrific job picking up pass protection assignments and knocked Melvin Ingram from the action on one occasion. Later in the half his downfield block allowed Arizona State receiver Gerrell Robinson to waltz into the end zone. Even before the game scouts stamped Martin as an early second-round choice.

Martin appears to have allayed concerns over his height (5 feet 9), and if he can be an early second round choice, he certainly could sneak into the back of the first round if a team felt it needed to pick a back then or trade back in to make certain he would be available for them.

Right now, it appears that Martin an safety George Iloka are looking to be the first two Boise State players drafted in 2012.

2012 Senior Bowl Update: Doug Martin Makes Impact

As one of the key events leading up to the 2012 NFL Draft, the 2012 Senior Bowl provided some of the top potential prospects in the upcoming draft with the opportunity to shine in front of NFL scouts and coaches.

One guy who has impressed scouts throughout the week is former Boise St. RB Doug Martin. In limited touches, Martin carried over his impressive form from practice, as he rushed for 19 yards on just four carries. Martin wasn't the only Boise St. player to have the attention of scouts, as Kellen Moore also had a chance to show that his game could translate to the next level. Moore struggled with his accuracy, completing just 6/12 attempts, with no TD's or interceptions.

Russell Wilson, who was once part of the Colorado Rockies organization before deciding to pursue football, also struggled a bit in his appearance. The former North Carolina St. and Wisconsin QB completed just 4/7 with a TD pass and an interception.

2012 Senior Bowl: Kickoff Time, TV Schedule And More

Having played for a team that was always on the outside looking in at the elite of college football, Boise St. Broncos Kellen Moore, Doug Martin, George Iloka, Shea McClellin and Billy Winn are used to having to prove themselves. The process will continue for the trio on Saturday at the Senior Bowl, where they will go up against some of the best college competition in the country in order to impress NFL scouts.

The spotlight will shine particularly bright on Moore, who is arguably the most decorated player in school history, but is seen by most pro scouts as a marginal NFL prospect. Moore will enter the game second over Michigan State Spartans QB Kirk Cousins for the North team and will be throwing to receivers such as DeVier Posey of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Marvin McNutt of the Iowa Hawkeyes that are serious pro prospects. Martin will be competing for playing time and attention with a few talented backs, including Ohio State's Dan Herron and Chris Polk of the Washington Huskies, who was the Pac-12's First Team All-Conference running back.

But it's Winn who is seen by most as the best pro prospect of the three, and he'll potentially have a chance to play himself into the bottom of the first round with an explosive performance in Mobile. He'll be going up against some talented linemen on the South roster, including SEC standouts William Vlachos of the Alabama Crimson Tide and Ben Jones of the Georgia Bulldogs, who Winn faced in the Broncos' opening game of the 2011 season.

Game date/time: Saturday, Jan. 2, 2012, 2 p.m. MT

Location: Ladd-Peebles Stadium, Mobile, Ala.

TV: NFL Network

2012 Senior Bowl: Russell Wilson, Kellen Moore Will Be First 2 QBs For North Squad

The North Squad has announced their expected rotation of quarterbacks for Saturday's Senior Bowl game:

Russell Wilson of the Wisconsin Badgers passed for 3175 and 33 TDs and just 4 INTs in 2011. After spending the first three seasons of his college career with the N.C. State Wolfpack, Wilson transferred to Wisconsin for his senior season, helping lead the Badgers to an 11-3 record.

Kellen Moore enters the Senior Bowl holding the record for the most wins by an NCAA quarterback, going an impressive 50-3 with the Boise St. Broncos. He finished the 2011 season with 3800 passing yards with 43 TDs and 9 INTs. Moore also has passed for nearly 15,000 yards in his four-year career.

Kirk Cousins is coming off his third year as the Michigan St. Spartans starting quarterback. He finished the season with 3316 yards, 25 TDs and 10 INTs.

NFL Draft 2012: ESPN Tabs 3 Boise State Players As Day 2 Selections After Senior Bowl Practice

The Boise St. Broncos will likely see several players drafted on Day 2 of the 2012 NFL Draft on April 27. With the NFL Draft now spanning three days, Day 2 involves Rounds 2 and 3, still a pretty good spot for many players to be drafted at. Over at ESPN (Insider only), Todd McShay and a couple of others believe the Broncos have three players who will go on Day 2: safety George Iloka, running back Doug Martin and defensive lineman Billy Winn.

None of these names are new to Day 2. Iloka is battling Notre Dame's Harrison Smith to be the No. 2 safety off the board behind Alabama's Mark Barron, who might be the only safety drafted in the first round. Martin is an undersized running back at 5 feet 9, but he's in a group of running backs that includes Lamar Miller and LaMichael James who could crack thee back end of the first round. Winn can move between end and tackle on the defensive line, increasing his versatility.

2012 NFL Draft: Mel Kiper Believes Russell Wilson Can Be Like Seneca Wallace

One of the more intriguing middle round prospects for the 2012 NFL Draft is former Colorado Rockies prospect and Wisconsin Badgers quarterback Russell Wilson. If he were several inches taller than the 5 feet 10 inches he was measured at during Senior Bowl practice, Wilson would likely be considered a first-round draft pick.

And obvious comparisons to Drew Brees over height concerns are made, but even Brees was a second-round pick. At the time, the first pick was the No. 32 overall pick, which a year later was the last pick of the first round. Depending on how one wants to view things, Brees was still pretty highly though of as a prospect either way.

Wallace, though, does appear to a closer comparison. He was a fourth-round draft pick in 2003 and has bounced around from the Seattle Seahawks to the Cleveland Browns, starting games for both teams. He's never quite shown that he can lead a team for a full season, but his size (5 feet 11, 196 pounds) hasn't prevented him from having a long career.

2012 Senior Bowl: Doug Martin Of Boise State Makes Top 10 Prospect List At NFP

For all the 2012 NFL draft prospects at the Senior Bowl, this is their chance to either confirm the solid play they've put on tape in their college career, or show the progress they've made since their freshman year. With NFL scouts and personnel staff watching very closely during the first three days of team practices, many of come away with new impressions or reinforced opinions of the players they evaluated. Wes Bunting of the National Football Post spent the week talking with scouts and drawing his own insights on the best players in attendance, and a member of the Boise State Broncos made is list.

Boise State running back Doug Martin comes in as the No. 9 overall prospect at the Senior Bowl, according to Bunting. The 5'9" running back may not have a top 40 time, but Bunting sees plenty of potential in him:

Martin isn't a dynamic size/speed guy, but there aren't many negatives to his game. He plays fast, runs low, is natural through the line of scrimmage and has a skill set somewhat similar to former Alabama RB Mark Ingram. He might fall a bit because he doesn't run overly well, but he has the skill set to start in the league.

As for potential fits in the NFL, Bunting notes that the Cincinnati Bengals, New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers would all be a great place for Martin to land on draft day.

2012 Senior Bowl: Kellen Moore Continues To Underwhelm In Day Two Of Practice

The efforts of graduating quarterbacks such as Boise State's Kellen Moore and Wisconsin's Russell Wilson to prove to NFL teams that they're capable of handing what the league can throw at them continued on Wednesday at the 2012 Senior Bowl.

Unfortunately, it's hard for scouts to get past things as obvious as size, and both players come up well short of expectations in that area. Moore stands at just 5-foot-11 and weighs 191 pounds, while Wilson came in at just 5-foot-10, 203 pounds. Considering that, those two have had a whole lot to gain with the attention they've received at this year's Senior Bowl, but the results have continued to be underwhelming.

SB Nation's Alfie Crow is down in Mobile taking in the whole scene, and he wasn't impressed by Moore once again during Day 2:

Boise State's Kellen Moore continued to struggled getting the football to spots, especially on out routes. On most passes deeper than about 15 yards, Moore either threw the football at the receivers knees or over their heads. While his lack of arm strength isn't a shock to most people, it's clearly going to limit what he's able to do in the pro game.

Wilson underwhelmed, as well.

Russell Wilson struggled with his accuracy again, especially on some out routes. Wilson did throw a beautiful deep ball in one-on-one drills, but wide receiver T.J. Graham just couldn't haul the ball in.

These are guys that really only receive attention as NFL prospects because of the stunning success that they had during their respective college careers. If they can't prove to NFL scouts that they're capable of making the throws required of quarterbacks in that league, they likely won't last very long.

NFL Draft 2012: Zach Brown Talks With Broncos At Senior Bowl

The Denver Broncos shored up the pass-rushing linebacker position by drafting Von Miller with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft and that worked out pretty well. Miller went on to record 11.5 sacks, being slowed down by a thumb injury late in the season. One can never have enough talent at a position, but news of North Carolina linebacker Zach Brown talking with the Broncos has emerged:

Does this really mean the Broncos are thinking about drafting another linebacker in the first round? Not really, and it was probably the Broncos executives and scouts making the rounds with all of the players. As John Elway said last year when he interviewed quarterbacks, he was just doing a complete and thorough part of his job.

Brown had 5.5 sacks in 2011 and could be picked well before the Broncos are on the clock at No. 25.

2012 Senior Bowl: Kellen Moore And Russell Wilson Struggle In Day 1 Practice

Boise State Broncos quarterback Kellen Moore and Wisconsin Badgers quarterback Russell Wilson are desperately trying to prove to NFL scouts that their college success can translate to the NFL at the 2012 Senior Bowl. Both players had spectacular senior seasons, yet each came into day one of Senior Bowl practice with one mark already against them. Moore measured at an unimpressive 5'11" and 191 pounds, while Wilson came in ever shorter at 5'10" but more muscular at 203 pounds. With some inherent physical traits that don't match the prototypes for an NFL quarterback, was either player able to make a positive impression with their throws and reads on the field?

SB Nation's Alfie Crow traveled to Mobile, AL to take in North Team practice on day one, and didn't exactly see great things from the two undersized quarterback prospects. Here is what he noticed with Moore:

Kellen Moore's lack of arm strength was apparently early in practice when he missed badly on back to back seven-yard out throws. Moore muscled the ball, but just couldn't get the depth on the sideline the route required. Moore was also noticeable smaller than everyone else on the field, coming in at under six-foot and only 191 pounds...Despite his lack of arm strength, Moore was able to hit a couple of nice passes down the field, dropping the ball right into the receivers hands.

As for former Colorado Rockies prospect Russell Wilson, Crow found he struggled on his deep passes in the early going and did little to distinguish himself from Moore or Kirk Cousins.

2012 Senior Bowl: George Iloka And Shea McClellin Two Boise State Products Making Impressions

For two former Boise State Broncos players, safety George Iloka and defensive end Shea McClellin, the 2012 Senior Bowl represents an opportunity to make a big impression on NFL scouts and talent evaluators. Wes Bunting of the National Football Post has been watching closely and taking copious notes throughout the entire process, and came away with some interesting impressions on both players from North Team practice. Here is what Bunting had to say:

On safety George Iloka

...a tall, long athlete with an athletic build and certainly looks the part in the deep half. He did a nice job Monday anticipating routes in cover one, showcasing a slight burst and covering some ground in the deep half. He still gets a bit leggy at times in his drop and when trying to re-direct. But, possesses some natural athleticism and was consistently putting himself in position to make plays.

On defensive end Shea McClellin

...had some inconsistencies during 1on1 drills today. As was evidence on tape, he's much more natural getting after the QB with his hand on the ground than standing up. He showcased the ability to turn the corner from a three-point stance on one occasion. But, on his next opportunity he got upright and lacked much suddenness on his counter when trying to create pressure as a stand up guy. He's a talented kid with a "plus" motor, but it will be interesting to see how he develops rushing the passer from a two point stance as the week goes on.

As for how these practices will affect each player's draft stock heading into the 2012 NFL Draft remains to be seen, but no doubt scouts from all over the league are coming away with little nuggets that will help them make tough decisions when the draft rolls around in April.

2012 Senior Bowl: Boise State Quarterback Kellen Moore Struggling On 1st Day Of Practice

Practices for the 2012 Senior Bowl are underway in Mobile, Alabama, and the Boise State Broncos have several representatives in the game, including star quarterback Kellen Moore.

Related: 2012 Senior Bowl Roster: Boise State Represented By Doug Martin, Kellen Moore

So far, though, Moore has not impressed Sports Illustrated's Tony Pauline:

Though its still early, Kellen Moore (QB/Boise State) does not look good. He shows no ability to put speed on his passes and his throws have consistently been behind receivers.

Arm strength has been a knock on Moore in the past, but accuracy was not an issue for him in college -- he completed 71.3% of his passes in 2010 and 74.3% of his passes in 2011. There are some adjustments to be made to preparing for the Senior Bowl, and nerves can be a factor as well given the number of scouts on hand scrutinizing every snap in practice.

2012 Senior Bowl Roster: Boise State Represented By Doug Martin, Kellen Moore

The 2012 Senior Bowl rosters have officially been released and the Boise St. Broncos will have five representatives this year. Running back Doug Martin leads the group as he has been viewed as a possible first-round selection in the 2012 NFL Draft. The others are quarterback Kellen Moore, safety George Iloka and defensive linemen Shea McClellin and Billy Winn.

That group of four is expected to go anywhere between Round 2-7. But strong showings in the Senior Bowl and later workouts could surely improve their draft stock. Moore will need to demonstrate that his height won't be an issue. Winn has the potential to play end and tackle, which would make him a solid middle round pick.

The Senior Bowl takes place on Jan. 28 and can be seen on the NFL Network at 2:00 p.m. MT.

2012 Senior Bowl: Boise State RB Doug Martin Ranked No. 5 Offensive Prsospect

Boise St. Broncos running back Doug Martin doesn't carry the name recognition of Alabama's Trent Richardson and he doesn't come from the Miami Hurricanes, where Lamar Miller is the next running back from there to be an NFL Draft pick (Edgerrin James, Clinton Portis, Willis McGahee, Frank Gore), but he certainly has a future in the NFL. The National Football Post's Wes Bunting rates Martin as the No. 5 offensive prospect at the 2012 Senior Bowl:

Martin isn't a dynamic size/speed back, but there aren't many negatives to his game as a back. He plays fast, runs low, is natural through the line of scrimmage and has a skill set somewhat similar to former Alabama RB Mark Ingram last year. He might fall a bit because he doesn't run overly well, but he has the skill set to start in the league.

Martin could wind up going in Round 2, where backs like Virginia Tech's David Wilson and the Oregon Ducks' 5-foot-9 LaMichael James could also go off the board. Will Martin be the first Boise State player off the board?

Senior Bowl Roster 2012: Former Rockies Prospect Russell Wilson Added To North Roster

While game officials have yet to announce the full rosters for the 2012 Senior Bowl, announcements continue to trickle out. On Tuesday, the Senior Bowl announced that six Wisconsin players accepted invitations to play in the game, including quarterback -- and former Colorado Rockies prospect -- Russell Wilson.

Wilson, a four-year starter, led Wisconsin to the Big Ten championship and a Rose Bowl appearance in 2011. He spent the previous three seasons at North Carolina State, where he also played baseball. Wilson was drafted in the fourth round of the 2010 MLB draft by the Colorado Rockies, and it was his split commitments that eventually led to his departure from the Wolfpack.

Wilson will play on the North team along with Boise State QB Kellen Moore. The Minnesota Vikings staff is coaching the North side in this year's game.

2012 Senior Bowl Roster: Kellen Moore And 3 Other Boise State Broncos Accept Roster Invites

On Thursday afternoon the Senior Bowl announced via Twitter that four Boise State football players have accepted invites to play in the game: quarterback Kellen Moore, running back Doug Martin, defensive lineman Billy Winn and safety George Iloka.

It's a great opportunity for those players to impress NFL scouts, and a good week at the Senior Bowl could go a long way toward improving their draft stock.

Moore led the Broncos offense with 3,800 yards passing, 43 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He completed over 74% of his passes in 2011. Martin paced the ground game with 1,299 yards rushing and 16 scores. Iloka finished second on the team with 58 tackles, while Winn had eight tackles for loss this season, including three sacks.
