Big East Expansion: Temple's Decision May Come On Wednesday

The Temple Owls might be the newest member of the Big East by Wednesday afternoon if a conference call by the Board of Trustees approves the move, according to Michael Bradley of CSN Philly. The Owls, who were football members of the Big East through 2004, have been a target of both the Big East and the Conference USA-Mountain West league that will begin in 2013.

However, the Big East is looking for a new member this fall because the West Virginia Mountaineers successfully left the league early and will join the Big 12 on July 1. The scheduling gap for the upcoming football season could use a Temple football program that has turned things around while being a MAC school, winning nine games this season.

The Owls, though, would join the league as a full member, leaving the Atlantic 10 basketball conference. If the Owls accept, they will join the Big East ahead of the 2013 rush that will include the Boise St. Broncos and the San Diego St. Aztecs, both currently part of the Mountain West.
