Air Force defensive coordinator Matt Wallerstedt has accepted a job with Texas A&M and secondary coach Charlton Warren will be promoted to replace him, as the school announced on Wednesday. Wallerstedt will now be the linebacker's coach for the Aggies.
Warren takes over a defense that ranked 72nd in points allowed nationally and 65th in yards allowed nationally, so there's a good deal of room for improvement. He's been on the Falcons' staff for seven years and had previously held the title of co-defensive coordinator even though Wallerstedt called the plays. Wallerstedt ran the defense for two years.
In addition to the changes at defensive coordinator, Brad White now takes over as inside linebacker's coach, a role previously filled by Wallerstedt, and as recruiting coordinator, a role previously filled by Warren.

Air Force RB Coach Desmond Kitchings Expected To Be Named To Same Position At NC State, According To Report
According to a report from PackPride.com, North Carolina State is expected to hire running backs coach and running game coordinator Desmond Kitchings away from the Air Force Academy. NC State has been looking for a new running backs coach since Everette Sands left the program for the same position at the University of South Carolina.

If the report is accurate, Kitchings will have spent only one season coaching at Air Force. He joined the Falcons after three years at Vanderbilt.
With Air Force, Kitchings helped what was -- as usual -- one of the country's top rushing attacks. The Falcons finished the 2011 season third nationally in rushing yards per game and fourth nationally in yards per carry.
