When Tim Beckman accepted the head coaching job at Illinois, the Toledo Rockets were left without a head coach of their own. On Dec. 9, the school announced that offensive coordinator Matt Campbell will serve as the team's interim head coach and lead the Rockets in the 2011 Military Bowl against the Air Force Falcons.
Campbell is also a leading candidate to get the full time head coaching gig, though the Rockets plan on a national coaching search.
Campbell has been with Toledo since 2009, where he has helped build one of the more prolific offenses in the Mid-American Conference. This season Toledo ranked in the top 10 nationally in total offense and scoring offense.
