Northern Colorado is still seeking its first win for head coach Earnest Collins Jr. The team is currently 0-12 during his tenure.
The Northern Colorado Bears embark once again on a quest to get Earnest Collins Jr. his first win as the team's head coach. After going 0-11 in 2011, his first year at the helm, Collins started off the 2012 season by watching UNC lose to the Utah Utes, 41-0.
Going up against an FBS team, UNC didn't have much of a chance at picking up that elusive inaugural victory, but this week might just be the one for Collins. They face the Colorado Mesa Mavericks, a Division II school, on Saturday. Colorado Mesa lost to the DII No. 21 Humboldt Lumberjacks, 38-19, to open the season.
Northern Colorado did lose the 2011 season opener against DII Lindenwood, but Colorado Mesa is not a very good team. This certainly should be a game for quarterback Seth Lobato to guide the Bears to a victory for Collins.
Game time/date: 1:35 p.m. MT, Saturday, Sept. 8
Location: Nottingham Field, Greeley, Colo.
TV Schedule: Altitude
