Pedal The Plains, the first-ever three-day, three-city bicycle tour based in western Colorado's High Plains will get underway on Friday.

The first-ever Pedal The Plains bicycle tour of Colorado's High Plains is set to begin a three-day jaunt spanning three cities on Friday.

Based on the state's western side, the tour aims to showcase Colorado's vast agricultural landscapes in an event that cyclists of all abilities and ages will be participating in.

The trek's first leg begins Friday in Yuma and stretches 28 miles through farmlands to Wray, the first stopping point. From Wray, Day 2 gives riders the option to pedal the 61 miles directly to Burlington or make a stop on the way to the site of the Battle of Beecher Island. The Beecher Island route spans 81 total miles.

Day 3 is the final leg of the tour and also the longest, as it brings cyclists 83 miles from Burlington back to Yuma, with an optional route, The Century Option, that lengthens the last stretch to 100 total miles on Sept. 23.

All information for Pedal The Plains, set up by the state of Colorado and The Denver Post, can be found on their official website.
