The Idaho Vandals are in Baton Rouge to face the No. 3 LSU Tigers on Saturday. Will the Vandals prevent the Tigers from covering the 42.5-point line?
The Idaho Vandals take on their hardest opponent of the 2012 season, the No. 3 LSU Tigers, on Saturday evening at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, La. They are a 42.5-point underdog and let's be honest: the Vandals really have no chance at winning this game.
The Tigers put up 41 points on North Texas and Washington in back-to-back weeks while surrendering just 17 total points. The Tigers can certainly do more damage than that against a team that lost to an FCS team, Eastern Washington, 20-3, to open the season.
Idaho quarterback Dominique Blackman played strong in a loss to Bowling Green last week when he completed 30 of 37 passes for 352 yards. However, Blackman will likely struggle against a defense that, while lacking Tyrann Mathieu, features Barkevious Mingo and Sam Montgomery on the line.
SB Nation's LSU blog, And The Valley Shook, recently did a Q&A with Vandal Nation and, well, this exchange sums up the game for both sides:
I don't think I'm going out on a huge limb if I say I think LSU is a much better team than Idaho. How will you define success in this game? What has to happen for Idaho to win this game?
VN: No Idaho players dying/getting hurt. Losing by less than Washington did. Scoring a touchdown. Any or all of those three and we'll be drinking in celebration Saturday night in Moscow.
Game time/date: 6 p.m. MT, Saturday, Sept. 15
Location: Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge, La.
TV Schedule: ESPN3
Odds: Idaho is a 42.5-point underdog.
Matchup History: LSU leads, 1-0, following a 53-20 victory on Sept. 26, 1998.
