Will Bob Davie and the Mew Mexico Lobos start things off with a victory over the Southern University Jaguars?
The Bob Davie Era begins on the field for the New Mexico Lobos on Saturday when they welcome the Southern University Jaguars. The Lobos are coming off three straight 1-11 seasons under the direction of Mike Locksley and George Barlow, the latter taking over the program in 2011 on an interim basis following an 0-4 start by Locksley.
This game might be the Lobos' best chance to win a game this season (Texas and Texas Tech over the following two weeks will be the toughest). However, the team is already hurting. Quarterback B.R. Holbrook's conditioning could limit his playing time, putting freshman Cole Gautsche into play. Gautsche is already the backup as a result of David Vega's indefinite suspension. Defensive linemen Rod Davis and Fatu Ulale are also suspended, but those last two and four games, respectively.
Eastern Washington and McNeese State, FCS schools like Southern, beat FBS teams on Thursday night. Will Southern join them in that category, or will Bob Davie start off the right way?
Game time/date: 3 p.m. MT, Saturday, Sept. 1
Location: University Stadium, Albuquerque, N.M.
Radio: 770 KKOB-AM, Lobo Radio Network
