Team USA Basketball Vs. Australia: Americans Roll To Semifinals, 119-86

The Americans didn't always dominate, but they got the result they wanted in a 119-86 victory over the Australians in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Summer Olympics. Needing a victory to move on to the semifinals, Team USA took a 14-point lead into halftime before ultimately pulling away in the fourth quarter.

At one point in the third quarter, Australia cut the the Americans' lead to just five points, but the United States' talent proved to be overwhelming once again in the latter portions of the game. Team USA dominated the fourth quarter, though, outscoring Australia by 19 points to put the game away.

Mark Worthington and David Barlow, a pair of Australian role players that played college ball at the local Metro State University, struggled in the game. Both players had four fouls apiece in limited playing time, as Barlow finished with four points and four rebounds while Worthington had two points and two rebounds.

Kobe Bryant was the leading scorer for Team USA with 20 points, including a 6-of-10 shooting effort from three-point range. LeBron James added the first ever Olympic triple-double with 11 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists, plus Deron Williams added 18 points. The Americans now move onto the semifinals, where they'll play Argentina.

Team USA Basketball Vs. Australia: Americans Lead 56-42 At Halftime

The United States leads 56-42 over Australia going into halftime in the quarterfinals of the knockout stage at the London Olympics. The Americans have taken advantage of quality defense and a stunning all-around effort from LeBron James, who continues to delight crowds in England with his ridiculous array of skills.

James hasn't been a big-time scorer so far like he typically is with the Miami Heat, but he's had little trouble making an impact on the game. Taking just five shots in the first half, James still put up seven points, ten rebounds and six assists to lead the U.S. to a solid double-digit lead.

Mark Worthington and David Barlow, a pair of Australian role players that played college ball at the local Metro State University, have done little so far. Worthington is 1-for-5 with two points and two rebounds, while Barlow has grabbed a rebound and missed his only shot attempt.

Deron Williams leads all scorers with 13 points and Kevin Durant has added nine points himself, but Patty Mills has also put up numbers with 12 points to lead the Australians. Joe Ingles has added nine points and five rebounds, but Australia has struggled to keep up.
