The United States— to the shock of many— won't be adding to its medal count in men's volleyball. Team USA lost to Team Italy 0-to-3 in the quarterfinals Wednesday afternoon in London. The match wasn't particularly that close, either. Team USA lost the three sets by the following scores: 26-to-28, 20-to-25 and 20-to-25 once again.
Team USA is, of course, the defending gold medal winners in this event. They were overwhelmed on Wednesday, though, by Italy's front line. Michael Lasko, Cristian Savani and Ivan Zaytsev accounted for 36 spikes alone; Team USA, meanwhile, only amassed 27 as a team. Denver native David McKenzie didn't register a point for the Americans.
Team Italy will advance to the semifinals, where they will face Team Brazil, who defeated Team Argentina on Wednesday.
