2012 London Olympics Results: Emma Coburn Advances To Women's Steeplechase Finals

The University of Colorado's Emma Coburn advanced to the finals in the women's steeplechase event after finishing third in her heat on Saturday. The race was not without excitement, as she had to avoid a fall early in the race:

Coburn didn't intend to lead so much of her heat, but pacesetter Clarisse Cruz of Portugal tripped early on, putting Coburn in the lead.

"Luckily I avoided her fall," Coburn said. "It was close to being a disaster, but I was paying close enough attention because it was still pretty early on, where there's lots of jostling, rubbing elbows and everything. I was on edge at that point, guarding my space."

Coburn's teammate at CU, Shalaya Kipp, also competed in this event but failed to qualify for the finals.
