Northern Colorado Vs. Utah Final Score: Utes Shut Out Bears, 41-0

The Northern Colorado Bears remain winless for head coach Earnest Collins Jr., as they fell to the Utah Utes in the season opener, 41-0, on Thursday. The Bears are now 0-12 over the last season plus one game.

The game was relatively quiet in the first quarter since the two teams played to a 0-0 tie, but the Utes' offense became relentless over the remaining three quarters. Jordan Wynn started the scoring with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Jake Murphy just a few minutes into the second quarter and had to wait until the final two minutes of the quarter to see more points on the board. Travis Wilson scored the first of two rushing touchdowns when he crossed the goal line with 2:17 left in the half. John White IV cracked the end zone on a 4th-and-1 for a 5-yard touchdown.

Wilson went on to score his second rushing touchdown roughly four minutes into the third quarter. Wynn and Murphy connected for their second touchdown early in the fourth quarter while the final score of the game came on Joe Kruger's 23-yard interception return for a touchdown not even two minutes later.

Wynn finished the game 19-of-27 for 200 yards, a touchdown and an interception. White finished the game with 119 yards on 24 carries. Northern Colorado quarterback Seth Lobato was 10-of-24 for 74 yards. Utah outgained Northern Colorado in total yards, 414-114.

Utah (1-0) will play Utah State on Sept. 7. Northern Colorado takes on Colorado Mesa on Sept. 8.

Northern Colorado Vs. Utah: Utes Add A Touchdown, Lead 28-0

After three quarters of play, the Utah Utes extended their lead to 28-0 against the Northern Colorado Bears by adding a rushing touchdown by backup quarterback Travis Wilson as he scored form six yards out. The touchdown drive was a five-play drive that went 67 yards.

The drive was led by John White IV, who rushed the ball for 37 yards on three carries. Starting quarterback Jordan Wynn set up the final play before the touchdown as he connected with Anthony Denham to get Utah to the six-yard line.

The Utah defense has also kept their shutout alive. In the third quarter, Northern Colorado had two possessions and were forced to punt both times, being held to only 41 yards of offense in the quarter.

Northern Colorado Vs. Utah: Utes Lead 21-0 At Halftime

After a first quarter lacking in offense, the Utah Utes exploded in the second en route to a 21-0 lead at halftime over the UNC Bears. Despite ending the first quarter with no points, the Utes looked like they were primed to score as the second quarter of their game began, starting on the Bears' 35 yard line.

Jordan Wynn connected with Jake Murphy, who beat the cornerback and was wide open in the corner of the end zone only two minutes into the quarter to put the Utes up 7-0. Wynn had a fantastic drive to lead the Utes to the score -- he went 5-5 with 56 yards.

Freshman Travis Wilson added a TD run to the scoreboard after a previous play that saw him hurdle over a tackler on the same drive. Johnny White put the final score on the board right before halftime with a short goal-line run.

The Bears were lucky to not give up a fourth touchdown right at the death of the half when their punter's knee touched the turf while fielding the ball for a punt. That gave Utah 17 seconds to get some more points from close range, but several pass played by Wynn ended up just short. Coleman Petersen's field goal slammed off the upright to end the half.

Continuing the trend from the first half, the Utah defense feasted on UNC's attack, not allowing the Bears to put together much of anything. Down 21-0 and looking as ineffective as they ever have been, the Bears have a mountain to climb if they want to get back into the game at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

Northern Colorado Vs. Utah: Defensive First Quarter Leaves Score At 0-0

The offense has been fairly stifled so far in the first NCAA game of the season for the Northern Colorado Bears and the Utah Utes. With the first quarter in the books, neither team has managed to put anything on the board and the score is tied up at 0-0.

Despite missing Brian Blechen, the Utes' defense stifled just about everything that the Bears tried to throw at them. Meanwhile the Utes have leaned heavily on their running game but Johnny White hasn't done a great deal on the ground. Currently at the end of the first quarter, the Utes are having their best series of the game with a drive that has landed them on UNC's 35 going into the second quarter.

If Utah gets on the board, their stifling defense will make it hard for the Bears to get back in at the rate the game has gone so far.
