The 2012 Deutsche Bank Championship gets underway on Friday. Can Nick Watney remain atop the FedExCup leaderboard standings?
The 2012 FedExCup Playoffs continue on Friday with the Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston in Norton, Mass. The total purse for the event comes in at $8 million and 2011 winner Webb Simpson took home $1.44 million in earning. He will look to earn that amount again while moving current FedExCup standings leader Nick Watney out of that spot.
Watney shot 10-under to win the Barclays 2012 at Bethpage-Black last weekend. Currently, he holds a 532-point lead over Brandt Snedeker, who finished second to Watney at the Barclays. Tiger Woods is in third place and trails by 809 points. He carded a 1-over for the entire Barclays tournament.
Martin Laird, a Colorado State alumnus, is looking to rebound from a disastrous weekend at the Barclays. He entered Saturday at 4-under and was in position to challenge for the lead before carding 6-over in each of the two rounds, finishing at 8-over. Laird is now No. 40 in the FedExCup standings, a drop of nine spots from the previous week.
Laird is in one of the later groups teeing off on Friday. Along with Greg Chalmers and Mark Wilson, Laird will take Tee No. 10 at 10:34 a.m. MT. Other notable groups include Webb Simpson, Louis Oosthuizen and Bo Van Pelt and Nick Watney, Tiger Woods and Brandt Snedeker.
