Colorado-native Missy Franklin, who won the women's 100m backstroke gold medal, failed to follow-up her strong Monday performance as she took a fourth-place finish behind American Allison Schmitt by 2.21 seconds in the women's 200m freestyle -- just 0.01 seconds off the podium.
Schmitt, meanwhile, finished with an Olympic record 1:53.6 time, beating the highly-touted Camille Muffat of France and Bronte Barratt of Australia. Missy Franklin will have a chance at redemption on Wednesday as she begins the 100m freestyle heats.
