2012 Summer Olympics Medal Count: Team USA, China Continue To Lead The Way

The United States and China remain at the top of the overall medal count in London -- both nations have picked up 17 medals up to this point. The Chinese have won nine gold medals, which is easily tops among all nations.

The United States has won five gold medals so far, as well as seven silvers and five bronzes. Colorado resident Missy Franklin added one of those golds to the U.S. tally by winning the women's 100m backstroke final on Monday.

Here's a look at the current top five in the medal count:

3. Japan (11)
4. Italy (8)
5. France (7)
