The 2012 Summer Olympics are right around the corner, and the Denver area will be well represented in a number of events. Track and field events in particular will have a distinct local feel for the USA, with four runners with Denver ties set to compete.
Boulder native Shalane Flanagan is set to compete in the marathon. The 31-year old Univeristy of North Carolina alum won bronze at the 2008 Olympics in the 10,000-meter race. Emma Coburn, a 21-year old from Boulder, will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, an event she finished 13th at during the 2011 IAAF World Athletics Championships.
John Nunn, who hails from Durango, Colorado, is America's lone entrant in the 50-K racewalk. The LA Times recently devoted to feature to Nunn's non-athletic interests. Boise native Nick Symmonds will also compete in the 800-meters.
