2012 U.S. Olympic Swim Team Trials: Missy Franklin Wins 200m Backstroke Finals

Missy Franklin is heading to the 2012 London Olympics to compete in four individual events after capturing the 200 meter backstroke finals title on Sunday evening. With relay events, too, Franklin will compete for seven medals across the pond later this month and in August.

Franklin completed the 200 meters in 2:06.12, better than her nearest competitor, Elizabeth Beisel, by 1.46 seconds. Beisel will compete in this event in London. Elizabeth Pelton came in third place at 2:08.06. Cherry Creek graduate Bonnie Brandon finished in fourth with a time of 2:09.52.

Franklin has previously qualified for 100 meter backstroke and the 100 meter and 200 meter freestyle. The 200 meter backstroke is her favorite event.

The XXX Olympiad begins on Friday, July 27, in London. How many medals can the 17-year-old swimmer from Denver win?
