While the semifinals on the men's side have yet to be played, the women's championship match was determined on Thursday at Roland Garros. No. 2 seed Maria Sharapova advanced in straight sets -- 6-3, 6-3 -- over No. 4 Petra Kvitova to earn a spot in the finals. Sharapova also managed to regain the No. 1 ranking in the world.

Sharapova's opponent is No. 21 Sara Errani, who advanced with a tough three-set win over No. 6 Samantha Stosur. The final match is scheduled for Saturday, June 9.
The men's semifinal round will take place on Friday, June 8.
