2012 U.S. Swimming Team Trials: Missy Franklin Finishes 2nd In 100m Freestyle, Adds 3rd London Event

In the 100 meter freestyle finals, Denver's Missy Franklin finished in second place and is now in her third even in the 2012 London Summer Olympics. Franklin was in seventh at the turn, but her closing speed was amazing and she finished in 54.15 seconds. Jessica Hardy won the event in 53.96 seconds. Allison Schmitt finished in third while Natalie Coughlin finished in sixth, placing her on the Olympic team.

Roughly 20 minutes before the 100 meter freestyle, Franklin captured the best time in the 200 meter backstroke semifinals by posting a 2:07.91. She beat Elizabeth Beisel, who was in the same heat, by 0.50 seconds. Elizabeth Pelton captured third place while Bonnie Brandon, a Cherry Creek High School graduate, came in fourth.

Franklin is already going to the Olympics for the 100 meter backstroke and the 200 meter freestyle. On Sunday, she has the finals for the 200 meter backstroke and the preliminaries for the 50 meter freestyle.
