2012 U.S. Swimming Team Trials: Missy Franklin Wins 200m Backstroke Prelims

Missy Franklin has advanced to the semifinals of the 200 meter backstroke after winning the preliminaries on Saturday. She put up a winning time of 2:08.35 and will compete in the semifinals of Saturday evening. It will be a busy night for the 17-year-old swimmer as she will also be competing in the finals for the 100 meter freestyle. She finished in second place during the semifinals on Friday night.

Franklin is already heading to the 2012 London Summer Olympics to compete in the 100 meter backstroke and the 200 meter freestyle. On Sunday, she will take part in the preliminaries for the 50 meter free style.

In all, Franklin can qualify for five events in London. We'll know soon enough if she will make her third event on Saturday evening.

Bonnie Brandon, Cherry Creek High school graduate, finished in fourth and will compete in the semifinals of this event on Saturday.
