The Gainesville, Fla., regional finals will pit the No. 1 national seed and host Florida Gators against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Sunday night. The Gators booked their trip to that game with victories on Friday and Saturday night, but Tech needed to survive an elimination game against the College of Charleston on Sunday afternoon. They edged out Charleston, 3-0.
Tech's Alex Cruz threw six shutout innings and surrendered only two hits. Zane Evans closed out the game by pitching the final three innings and allowing just one hit, which came in the ninth inning. Tech scored the first run of the game on Evans' double in the top of the sixth inning while catcher Connor Lynch hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to extend and cushion that lead to 3-0.
One-time Colorado Rockies draftee and current Tech outfielder Brandon Thomas went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Florida and Tech clash on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. MT, a game that can be seen on ESPN3.com
