Missy Franklin finished in second place during the 100 meter freestyle semifinals on Friday night, which means she will one of eight swimmers to compete in the finals on Saturday night. Franklin finished the event in 54.19 seconds, just 0.05 seconds behind Amanda Weir at 51.14.
In the preliminaries on Friday morning, Franklin came in at 54.78 for seventh place while Weir came in fifth place at 54.65.
Dana Vollmer, who won the preliminaries, finished in fifth place during the semifinals. Allison Schmitt took third place in the semis. Natalie Coughlin took seventh place.
Franklin has already qualified for the London Olympics in the 100 meter backstroke and the 200 meter freestyle. On Saturday, in addition to the finals for the 100 meter freestyle, Franklin will compete in the preliminaries for the 200 meter backstroke. She also has the 50 meter freestyle preliminaries on Sunday.
