2012 U.S. Open Prize Money: Webb Simpson Claims $1.4 Million

Stay connected for news and updates

Webb Simpson came to San Francisco for the 2012 U.S. Open as an unknown, but he'll leave as a champion who is $1.4 million richer. That was his slice of the $8 million purse (well, $1,440,000 to be exact), and it was quite a bit more than what second place finishers Graeme McDowell and Michael Thompson took home. Those two, who finished one shot off of Simpson's 1-over pace, each left California with $695,916, with the five fourth place finishers— which included Padraig Harrington and longtime leader Jim Furyk— checking out with $276,841.

Ernie Els shot a 72 on Sunday, which dropped him to 4-over, which was good for a ninth place finish and a check for $200,280. There were five tenth place finishers— including Retief Goosen and Lee Westwood— and they received checks for $163,594.
