2012 College World Series: Practice, Opening Ceremonies Take Place On Thursday

The 2012 College World Series doesn't see its first action on the field until Friday afternoon when the Stony Brook Seawolves and the UCLA Bruins play at TD Ameritrade Park, its second year in the new stadium, but on Thursday all the teams will practice there. After each of those hour-long practices end, the teams will then have an autograph session.

Also taking place on Friday will be the Opening Ceremonies at 7:30 p.m MDT. Former Georgia Tech shortstop Nomar Garciaparra will join the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team as the headliners for this event:

In addition to Garciaparra’s involvement, the Golden Knights, which is the U.S. Army’s official aerial demonstration team, will perform a pyrotechnic jump into the stadium as part of Opening Ceremonies. Jumps are performed from 12,500 feet above the ground, or nearly two and a half miles straight up.

That is certainly a sight to behold. But the real draw should be the team introductions, though the Olympic-style presentation might not be for everyone.

2012 College World Series Schedule Set, Will Begin On June 15

The 2012 College World Series will begin on Friday, June 15, with the South Carolina Gamecocks looking for a third straight title in Omaha, Neb. But can the upstarts, the Kent St. Golden Flashes and the Stony Brook Seawolves, make some additional noise as they try to knock off teams from the West Coast and the South, the perennial powerhouse locations for college baseball?

The College World Series begins with a double-elimination setup until only the final two teams remain. Those two battle-hardened teams will then take part in a best-of-three championship series. South Carolina defeated Florida in the title series in 2011, but this year they play each other in an opening round contest in Bracket 2.

Here are the matchups for the first two days (head here for the complete schedule):

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament Scores: Arkansas Pulls Off 1-0 10th Inning Victory Against Baylor, Securing College World Series Spot

It took extra innings, but the Arkansas Razorbacks are heading to the College World Series after defeating the Baylor Bears, 1-0, on Monday night. Arkansas took the Waco, Tx., Super Regional two games to one.

After nine scoreless innings, the two teams went to extra innings and that's when Arkansas struck. Dillon Newman, just Baylor's second pitcher on the night, allowed a Brian Anderson leadoff single and saw him advance to second on a groundout by Bo Bigham. Matt Vinson struck out for the second out of the inning, leaving the team with a runner in scoring position and no out to spare. Jake Wise singled through the left side, scoring Anderson and then advancing to second the throw to the plate.

Colby Suggs had pitched the ninth for Arkansas and came back for the bottom of the 10th. He induced two fly ball outs to start the inning before walking a batter and allowing a single. He then got Dan Evatt to strike out, but a throw to first base was needed since the ball was dropped. That proved easy and the team stormed the field to celebrate.

Baylor had a chance to blow the game wide open in the bottom of the fifth inning when the bases were loaded, but Max Muncy hit the ball to a diving Bigham, who made the throw to first base to end the inning.

Baylor won Game 1, 8-1, but then lost Game 2, 5-4, when a couple of hit-by-pitches tied the game and provided the walkoff run for Arkansas.

Arkansas is the eighth and final team to head to Omaha, Neb., for the College World Series. The other seven teams are Arizona, Florida, Florida St. Kent State, South Carolina, Stony Brook and UCLA

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament Scores: Kent State Punches Ticket To College World Series With 3-2 Victory Over Oregon

The Kent St. Golden Flashes are going to the 2012 College World Series following its 3-2 victory over the Oregon Ducks on Monday night. This is their first appearance ever in Omaha, Neb.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Kent State won it on a Jimmy Rider double down the left field line with a runner scoring from second base. Left fielder Brett Thomas and shortstop J.J. Altobelli both converged on the ball after it appeared that Thomas lost the ball in the sun, which he did. Derek Toadvine, who reached on a walk to start the inning, came around to score the winning run.

The Golden Flashes held a 2-0 lead after the first two innings, scoring runs on a single and a double play. Oregon bounced back with a Ryon Healy two-run single in the top of the eighth inning. Kent State starter Tyler Skulina threw 5.2 innings of two-hit ball.

Kent State joins Stony Brook as the second team from the North of the United States to make the College World Series in Omaha. The other teams there are Arizona, Florida, Florida St., South Carolina and UCLA. The Arkansas-Baylor game is currently in progress and waiting to decide the eighth and final spot.

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament Scores: Kent State Leads Oregon 2-0 In 6th Inning

Kent State leads Oregon 2-0 in the fifth inning of the decisive third game of the Eugene Super Regional; the winner heads to Omaha, NE for the 2012 College World Series.

Related: Eugene Super Regional Game 3 Open Thread

T.J. Sutton got Kent State on the board in the first inning with an RBI single. Another run scored in the second inning when Evan Campbell grounded into a double play. But that GIDP helped the Ducks work their way out of a no-out, bases loaded jam that could have provided the Golden Flashes a bit of breathing room.

As it stands now, the Ducks are threatening in the sixth inning with two men aboard and nobody out. The game is being televised by ESPNU. Here's the live box score.

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament: South Carolina Heads To College World Series After 5-1 Victory Over Oklahoma, Seeks 3rd Straight Title

The South Carolina Gamecocks are now on a 21-game postseason winning streak and the sixth team to book a trip to Omaha, Neb., for a spot in the 2012 College World Series. South Carolina defeated the Oklahoma Sooners, 5-1, on Monday afternoon in the completion of Game 2 of this 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament Super Regional.

This game started on Sunday, but weather conditions forced a postponement of the game during the bottom of the sixth inning. The score was tied at zero at the time, but that didn't last when play resumed on Monday. Oklahoma failed to capitalize on a two-out bases loaded situation by hitting into a flyout to end the sixth inning. Connor Bright began the seventh inning with a double and was replaced with T.J. Costen on the basepaths. Tanner English put down a bunt along the first baseline, which the first baseman picked up and sailed the throw over to third base. Costen scored the first run of the game. English eventually came around to score on a wild pitch.

Oklahoma responded with one run in the bottom half of the inning on an Evan Mistich single, but South Carolina roared back with three runs in the top of the eighth inning. English had a bunt RBI while Chase Vergason doubled to left center field for two RBI.

Gamecocks shutdown reliever Matt Price threw the final three innings of the game, allowed just two hits and struck out four batters.

South Carolina, winner of the previous two NCAA Baseball championships and currently on an 11-game winning streak in Omaha, joins Arizona, Florida, Florida State, Stony Brook and UCLA as the six teams already in the College World Series. On Monday night, Kent State-Oregon and Arkansas-Baylor will determine the final two spots.

2012 College World Series: Which Teams Are In, Which Ones Are Waiting?

UPDATE: South Carolina, Kent St. and Arkansas completed the bracket. Full CWS schedule is here.

---

The 2012 College World Series field is nearly complete, and we'll know the full lineup for Omaha by the end of Monday night. On Sunday, three more teams secured spots for a chance at college baseball's top prize.

The Arizona Wildcats and the UCLA Bruins entered the fray on Saturday and saw the Florida Gators, the Florida St. Seminoles and the Stony Brook Seawolves secure spots. The Gators used a 9-8 victory in 10 innings over the N.C. State Wolfpack to garner their spot. The Florida St. Seminoles might have secured their spot on Saturday had rain not forced the game to Sunday. It didn't really matter, as Florida St. won, 18-7, over Stanford. The Seminoles scored 35 runs in two games.

Stony Brook, though, is the most surprising member of this group. The Seawolves lost Game 1 on Saturday in 12 innings, 5-4, after the game had been suspended on Friday. They came back later that night with a 3-1 victory to tie the series. On Sunday, after rain forced the game later into the night, Stony Brook picked up a 7-2 victory to head to Omaha. They are the first America East team to head to the College World Series and are just the second No. 4 regional seed to make the final bracket. Fresno State won the entire thing in 2008 as a No. 4 seed.

There are three spots remaining and will be decided on Monday. The Kent St. Golden Flashes can join Stony Brook as a Northern school in the College World Series, but they will need to pick things up after losing Game 2 to the Oregon Ducks, the No. 5 national seed. South Carolina and Oklahoma will continue Game 2 on Monday after rain forced a suspension of play. South Carolina won Game 1, but Game 3 will follow later that night should Oklahoma win the completion of Game 2. Arkansas and Baylor play Game 3 after the Razorbacks took Saturday's game.

Here is the schedule for Monday:

Oregon vs. Kent State, 2:00 p.m. MT 5:00 p.m. MT, ESPNU
South Carolina vs. Oklahoma, 2:00 p.m. MT, ESPN2/Game 3 at 5:05 p.m. MT, ESPN2 (if necessary)
Arkansas vs. Baylor, 5:00 p.m. MT, ESPNU

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament Scores: Oregon Staves Off Elimination With 3-2 Victory Over Kent St.

The Oregon Ducks, the No. 5 national seed, are still alive and kicking in the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament with a 3-2 victory over the Kent St. Golden Flashes on Sunday night. A three-run seventh inning put the Ducks ahead and solid bullpen after freshman starter Jake Reed left the game after 6.2 innings secured the victory.

Kent State got on board with a solo home run in the second inning and an RBI double in the fourth inning, both by George Roberts. The Golden Flashes could have opened up the game in the fourth inning, but a bases-loaded situation ended in nothing following groundout with two outs already recorded.

Oregon came back in the seventh inning with a one-out single by Ryon Healy, who scored on a single and an error when Brett Thomas followed him at the plate. A walk to Kyle Garlick and a Ryan Hambright single scored the second run. Brett Hambright put down a sacrifice bunt on the next play and reached base due to an error. However, Garlick scored on the play.

Kent State saw T.J. Sutton double to lead off the bottom of the ninth, but Thomas Thorpe followed with a strikeout. Jimmie Sherfy came in for the final two outs and got a swinging strikeout and a called strike three to end the game.

Game 3 of this best-of-three series will take place on Monday at 2:00 p.m. MT on ESPNU.

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament Scores: Stony Brook Heads To College World Series With 7-2 Victory Over LSU

The Stony Brook Seawolves will continue their journey this baseball postseason with a berth in the 2012 College World Series. They defeated the LSU Tigers on Sunday evening in a lop-sided 7-2 victory for its second win in the best-of-three Baton Rouge, La., Super Regional of the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament.

LSU pitcher Ryan Eades, a 2010 Colorado Rockies draft pick, didn't have his good stuff while on the mound this time. He allowed four runs over 2.2 innings, but there was also some rather shoddy defense by the Tigers defenders that didn't help things. Joe Broussard and Chris Cotton allowed the other three runs.

Stony Brook's Frankie Vanderka threw a complete game three-hitter. His offensive support came from Maxx Tissenbaum, who had a two-run double and three RBI overall. Kevin Krause added two RBI and Travis Jankowski picked up four hits and scored twice.

Stony Brook joins Arizona, Florida, Florida St. and UCLA in Omaha for the College World Series. They are looking to join the Fresno St. Bulldogs (2008) as the only No. 4 seed (since the tournament expanded to 64 teams) to win the College World Series

2012 NCAA Basebal Tournament Scores: Florida St. Downs Stanford, 18-7, For Trip To College World Series

While the Arizona Wildcats had the offensive performance of the regional round, averaging nearly 16 runs over three games, the Florida St. Seminoles completely embarrassed the Stanford Cardinal in the Super Regional round by scoring 35 runs in two victories. After Saturday's Game 2 was postponed until Sunday, the Seminoles came out with an 18-7 victory and a trip to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.

Florida State jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings and then had a 10-2 lead after the top of the seventh. Stanford struck for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Seminoles juggernaut continued to roll when the eighth inning came around. Florida State put up an eight-spot for the 18-7 lead.

Florida State's Sherman Johnson went 3-for-6 with five RBI, including a three-run home run in the second inning. Jace Boyd went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run while Seth Miller hit a grand slam in the eight-run eighth inning.

Florida State starting pitcher Mike Compton allowed just two runs in four innings, but he gave up 11 hits. Gage Smith surrendered four of the other runs. Stanford starter Brett Mooneyham allowed the first five runs in one-plus inning of work.

Florida St. joins in-state rival Florida, Arizona and UCLA in the College World Series.

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament: Oklahoma Vs. South Carolina Game Postponed

Weather has caused problems for several regionals in the southeast this weekend, and that includes Columbia. Sunday's game between the Oklahoma Sooners and South Carolina Gamecocks has been postponed; they'll resume play on Monday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. MT, according to Oklahoma baseball's official Twitter account.

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament Scores: Stony Brook Leads LSU, 6-1, After 5 Innings

The pressure is on the LSU Tigers in Game 3 of this Super Regional best-of-three series against the Stony Brook Seawolves. After five full innings, the Seawolves are on the verge of an upset and a spot in the College World Series with a 6-1 lead.

Stony Brook's Maxx Tissenbaum has been an offensive juggernaut this game with two doubles, the first plating one run and the second scoring two. Outfielder Travis Jankowski is 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Steven Goldstein has two hits and one RBI.

Stony Brook starting pitcher Frankie Vanderka has allowed one run on one hit and four walks in five innings. LSU starter Ryan Eades lasted just 2.2 innings and gave up four runs on seven hits.

Should Stony Brook pick up the victory, they will be just the second No. 4 seed -- the equivalent of a No. 13 seed or lower in the basketball tournament -- to advance to the College World Series since the field expanded to 64 teams. Arizona, Florida and UCLA have already qualified for Omaha.

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament Scores: Arkansas Stays Alive With 5-4 Win Over Baylor

Arkansas rallied from a 4-3 ninth inning deficit to defeat the Baylor Bears 5-4 on Sunday and even the series at 1-1. They will meet again on Monday to decide which team advances to the 2012 College World Series.

Related: RAGE! Or, thoughts on a 5-4 Baylor loss.

The Razorbacks won in a walk-off fashion that is rare, to say the least. Jimmy Bosco was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, which tied the score at four. The Bears made a pitching change, but the result ended up being the same: the new pitcher hit the next Arkansas batter, which brought in the winning run. Baylor had held a 4-3 lead since a 3-run rally in the fifth inning.

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament Scores: Florida Advances To College World Series With Wild 9-8 Victory Over N.C. State

The Florida Gators are heading back to the College World Series, but it certainly wasn't easy in a 9-8 10-inning victory over the N.C. State Wolfpack. What was expected to be a pitchers' duel began that way before giving way to a two-plus hour rain delay and then plenty of offensive fireworks.

For the first two-and-one-half innings, neither Florida's Hudson Randall nor N.C. State's Carlos Rodon allowed a hit. Then came the rain to cause a delay to the start of the third inning. When played resumed at 2:00 p.m. MT, N.C. State wasted no time putting a run on the board against Randall, who stayed in to resume the game. Doubles by Brett Austin and Matt Bergquist plated the first run of the game.

Rodon did not return to the game, giving way to Anthony Tzamtzis. Florida struck for four runs on a Preston Tucker home run, a Casey Turgeon single, a Justin Shafer sacrifice fly and a Vickash Ramjit single. However, that lead was cut to 4-3 after Randall allowed a two-run double by Austin in the bottom of the frame. Chris Diaz tied the game with a home run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

From the bottom of the seventh inning to the bottom of the ninth inning, N.C. State and Florida exchanged runs to keep tying the game. In the top of the 10th, Florida broke through for a two-run lead on a Daniel Pigott home run and a Josh Tobias RBI single. The Wolfpack threatened in the bottom of the 10th after a leadoff walk and a hit-by-pitch but two men on base. A sacrifice bunt by Grant Clyde put both runners in scoring position. A Trea Turner brought the game to a one-run differential, but Kennan Kish got Diaz to strike out looking to end the game.

The Gators are making their eighth trip to Omaha and their third straight. They join the Arizona Wildcats and the UCLA Bruins as the teams locked into spots so far.

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament: Florida, N.C. State In A Rain Delay

Poor weather conditions persist in the South and that has affected the Florida-N.C. State NCAA Baseball Tournament Super Regional game on Sunday afternoon. Before the start of the bottom of the third inning, rain, thunder and lightning forced a delay of the game and the tarp to be put over the infield. The score is tied at zero.

The delay went into effect at 11:37 a.m. MT, which means that it is likely the pitchers' duel between Florida's Jonathon Crawford, he of the no-hitter against Bethune-Cookman in his last outing, and N.C. State's Carlos Rodon has come to an end. Both had yet to surrender a hit before play came to a halt.

UPDATE: It appears both pitchers will stay in when play resumes.

UPDATE II: Play will resume at 2:00 p.m. MT.

UPDATE III: Or possibly Karsten Whitson will pitch for the Gators. Rodon, however, is done.

Former Colorado Rockies draftee and current Florida Gators outfielder Preston Tucker is the only baserunner, having reached on an error in the top of the first inning.

There is no word yet on when play will resume.

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament: Baylor, 1 Victory Away From College World Seires, Seeks Defeat Of Arkansas

On Saturday, Colorado Rockies draftee Trent Blank pitched the Baylor Bears to an 8-1 victory in Game 1 of the Waco, Tx., Super Regional of the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament. On Sunday, the Bears could find a spot in the College World Series secured should they take Game 2 in this best-of-three-series.

Blank threw eight innings of one-run ball, and he will now look to his teammate Josh Turley to turn in a similar performance. Turley, a lefty, is 9-1 with a 1.83 ERA in 16 starts. He will go up against one of the top prospects for the 2013 draft, Ryne Stanek. Stanek is 7-4 with a 2.83 ERA in 15 starts this season. Will he do better than D.J. 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament: Florida Can Wrap Up Spot In College World Series With Victory Over N.C. State

The Florida Gators can return to the College World Series on Sunday should they take Game 2 of this best-of-three 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament Super Regional matchup. After taking Saturday's game, 7-1, the Gators are looking to make another trip to Omaha and do what they failed to accomplish against South Carolina last year: win the College World Series.

Florida will start Jonathon Crawford on the mound for what could be the deciding game of this series. Crawford is 6-2 with a 2.92 ERA this season and threw a no-hitter against Bethune-Cookman to open the NCAA Baseball Tournament.

The Wolfpack will counter with freshman phenom Carlos Rodon, who has gone 9-0 with a 1.61 ERA in 16 games. He has struck out 132 in 111.2 innings pitched so far. The Wolfpack certainly have the pitcher they want on the mound to help keep their postseason dreams alive.

The LSU Tigers are one victory away from the 2012 College World Series. Their opponent, the Stony Brook Seawolves, is also one win away from making it to the final round of the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament. On Sunday, the two teams clash in a winner-take-all contest of this best-of-three series.

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament Scores: Kent State Upsets Oregon, 7-6, In Super Regional Opener

A No. 3 seed from the MAC, the Kent St. Golden Flashes upset the No. 5 national seed Oregon Ducks, 7-6, in Game 1 of the Eugene, Ore., Super Regional in the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament. If Kent State wins on Sunday, the Golden Flashes will advance to the College World Series.

Oregon threatened with two runs scored in the bottom of the ninth and a bases-loaded situation, but center fielder Evan Campbell laid out for a ball to make the final out of the game.

Kent State starting pitcher David Starn held the Ducks hitless for the first four innings before giving up a single in the fifth inning. However, he did allow a run in the third inning after a couple of walks, a couple of groundouts and a balk allowed a run to score. It was the second groundout that played the run. Starn allowed one run in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings before leaving with one out recorded in the seventh inning.

The Golden Flashes' offense scored five runs between the third and fifth innings and then two in the eighth inning. The two in the eighth were unearned as right fielder Aaron Jones misplayed the ball and allowed the runners to cross home plate. Jones, a Colorado Rockies 18th round draft pick went 1-for-2 with three walks and three runs scored.

Game 3 will take place on Sunday night at 8:00 p.m. MT. Tune into ESPNU to watch the game.

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament, Arizona Vs. St. John's: Game Time, TV Schedule And More

After a heartbreaking extra inning loss to the Arizona Wildcats on Friday, the St. John's Red Storm face a do-or-die situation in Game 2 of the Tucson Super Regional in the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament. The stipulations are simple: a win by the Red Storm forces a final Game 3 on Sunday, but a win by the Wildcats punches their ticket to the College World Series in Omaha and ends St. John's season.

The Johnnies will be looking for their hitting to carry them on Saturday just as they did on Friday, when they piled up 18 hits, 17 of which came off Arizona starter Kurt Heyer, who threw nine innings despite giving up six earned runs. That said, St. John's could also use a bigger game from shortstop and Colorado Rockies draft pick Matthew Wessinger, who only went 1-for-5 on Friday.

The Johnnies will send starter Sean Hagan to the hill with the season on the line, while the Wildcats will likely counter with Konner Wade.

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament, Florida Vs. N.C. State: Game Time, TV Schedule And More

The Florida Gators continue their march to the 2012 College World Series this weekend when they host the N.C. State Wolfpack in the Super Regional round. The winner of this best-of-three series earns one of eight spots in Omaha.

The Gators have been arguably the best team in the country this season and they entered the NCAA tournament as the No. 1 overall seed. Former Colorado Rockies draft pick Preston Tucker is a big reason why -- Tucker is hitting .316/.396/.579 with 15 home runs and 46 RBI for a very potent Gators offense.

N.C. State certainly could prove a challenge, though, and the 'Pack probably has the best starter of the two teams in freshman Carlos Rodon, a 2012 Golden Spikes Award finalist.

The Tigers and the Seawolves are knotted at 4-4 at the start of the 12th inning. 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament Scores: UCLA Defeats TCU, 6-2

The UCLA Bruins used a five-run inning to defeat the TCU Horned Frogs, 6-2, in the first game of the Los Angeles Super Regional of the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament. The Bruins are one game away from heading back to the College World Series.

TCU held a 2-1 lead after entering the bottom of the sixth inning. The Horned Frogs scored the first run in the first inning on a Josh Elander home run. UCLA countered with Kevin Kramer RBI single that scored Shane Zeile, nephew of former major leaguer and former Bruin Todd Zeile. In the third inning, TCU's Kyle Von Tungeln, a Colorado Rockies draft pick, led off with a home run.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Brandon Finnegan and Justin Scharf absorbed the six runs that inning. Scharf relieved Finnegan and actually allowed the two runs that Finnegan had charged to him on the box score, but it was Cody Regis' three-run double that did TCU in for the game.

That and UCLA starter Adam Plutko. Plutko went seven innings and struck out seven while allowing those two runs. David Berg struck out four batters over the final two innings of the game, including the final two batters.

2012 NCAA Baseball Scores: Florida State Roughs Up Stanford Ace Mark Appel, Wins 17-1

Stanford Cardinal star pitcher Mark Appel started the week off by falling from his presumed perch at the top of the 2012 MLB Draft all the way to the No. 8 overall pick. He ended it with his worst start of the 2012 season, as his Cardinal fell 17-1 to the Florida State Seminoles in the first game of the best-of-three Super Regional in Tallahassee.

Appel lasted only four innings on Friday night, allowing five hits and five earned runs, all of which came during a seven-run fourth inning for FSU (two of those runs were not charged to Appel). Most troublingly, Appel had serious issues with his control, walking in two runs and four batters in total. The Cardinal hitters were of little help, scoring only one run on seven hits despite the presence of high draft picks Stephen Piscotty and Kenny Diekroeger.

The Cardinal will have to win the final two games of the series to reach the College World Series in Omaha. FSU, meanwhile, can punch their ticket with a win on Saturday.

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament: Stony Brook Vs. LSU Game Postponed Due To Weather

The opening game of the Baton Rouge Super Regional between Stony Brook and Louisiana State has been postponed until Saturday because of bad weather in the area. The two teams are tied 4-4 in the 12th inning.

Related: 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament, LSU Vs. Stony Brook: Game Time, TV Schedule And More

The game probably should have ended an inning or two earlier, but an incredible string of clutch hitting from LSU extended the game. Stony Brook took a one-run lead into the bottom of the ninth and LSU evened things up with a solo home run. The exact same thing happened in both the 10th and the 11th.

LSU ace Kevin Gausman -- a Colorado native -- did not start Friday's game and will go in Game 2.

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament Scores: Arizona Delivers Clutch 7-6 Win Over St. John's In 10 Innings

Blown saves have been a theme in the early Super Regional games Friday -- Stony Brook blew a save in back-to-back-to-back innings against LSU, and that game is still going in extra innings. St. John's took a 6-5 lead over Arizona into the bottom of the 10th inning, but the Wildcats were able to produce the clutch hits necessary to rally for a pivotal 7-6 win.

With the score tied at six and the bases loaded, it was Arizona's Trent Gilbert who came through with the base hit that won the game. The win gives Arizona a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.

The Colorado Rockies drafted two St. John's players this year -- infielder Matt Wessinger, who went 1-5 Friday, and pitcher Matt Carasiti.

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament Scores: LSU, Stony Brook Tied At 4 After 11 Innings, In Rain Delay

The LSU Tigers and the Stony Brook Tigers are playing one incredible game on Friday afternoon. The game has now passed the four-hour mark and is in a rain delay before the first pitch of the 12th inning. It is tied 4-4.

Stony Brook took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the ninth, but JaCoby Jones started things off for the Tigers with a leadoff home run. Stony Brook countered with a Steven Goldstein home run in the top of the 10th inning; however, Tyler Moore homered in the bottom half of the inning to tie it at 3-3. The home run came just after the Stony Brook outfielder failed to catch a ball in foul territory for the final out of the inning.

Then in the 11th inning, Stony Brook loaded the bases and scored a run on a sacrifice fly. But, yet again, LSU answered back with a home run, this one from Mason Katz down the left field line. Raph Rhymes almost ended it during the next at-bat, but his ball was ruled foul.

LSU had runners on first and second with two outs, but Tyler Hanover flied out to end the inning.

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament Super Regionals: Stony Brook Leads LSU, 2-0

The Super Regionals of the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament began on Friday with the No. 7 national seed and No. 1 seed LSU Tigers taking on the No. 4 Stony Brook Seawolves in the first game of the day. After five full innings, the Seawolves -- the lowest remaining seed in the tournament -- hold a 2-0 lead.

LSU freshman starter Aaron Nola has labored through the first five innings, but with only two runs allowed he's still kept the Tigers in the game. He worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the first inning by getting a strikeout looking on Cole Peragine. But in the second inning, Sal Intagliata, the nine-hole hitter, clubbed a two-run home run. Nola has struck out five batters.

Stony Brook starter Brandon McNitt has kept the Tigers off-balance all day, allowing just two hits. Will he continue this success?

The No. 7 national seed LSU Tigers kick off the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament's Super Regional round on Friday with the first game of a best-of-three series against the Stony Brook Seawolves. A spot in the College World Series is on the line.

The LSU Tigers pitching staff is led by the Baltimore Orioles' No. 4 overall draft pick RHP Kevin Gausman (11-1, 2.72 ERA), a native of Colorado. Nola will draw the opening game start, just as he did when regional play started last week. The freshman struck out 10 batters and allowed just one run in eight innings in the 4-1 victory over the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks.

The Tigers' offense is led by Raph Rhymes, who is hitting .452/.510/.557 with 52 RBI. Nola's older brother, Aaron, is hitting .313 and has the third most RBI on the team, 42. The LSU offense came up big in Sunday's finale to lead a 6-5 comeback victory in the 10th inning over the second game against the Beavers.

Stony Brook is the Cinderella of this tournament so far, surviving the opening double-elimination round with three victories over last Sunday and Monday. The Seawolves are led by outfielder Travis Jankowski, a supplemental first-round pick by the San Diego Padres on Monday. Jankowski leads a contingent of seven Stony Brook draftees. As a junior, Jankowski is hitting .417/.484/.632 with 17 doubles, 10 triples, five home runs and 46 RBI.

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament Scores: N.C. State Stages 9th Inning Comeback Over Vanderbilt For 9-7 Victory

The No. 2 Vanderbilt Commodores were just three outs away from winning the Raleigh regional over the host No. 1 N.C. State Wolfpack; however, when all was said and done the 'Dores found themselves out of the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament with a 9-7 loss and the 'Pack secured a spot in the Super Regionals

Vanderbilt held a 7-6 lead in the top of the ninth, but a single, a throwing error, a ground out and an intentional walk load the bases with Will Clinard on the mound. Tarran Senay then knocked in two runs on a single. A single by Trea Turner cushioned the lead by another run.

N.C. State starter Logan Jernigan allowed all seven runs over four innings, but Ryan Wilkins and D.J. Thomas did a shutdown job for the remainder of the game. Vanderbilt's Tyler Beede threw 5.1 innings of four-run ball while walking three and striking out eight.

The Wolfpack will go on to play the No. 1 national seed Florida Gators in the Super Regionals this weekend.

The Stony Brook Seawolves entered the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament as a No. 4 seed, but they are just one victory away from heading to the Super Regionals. The No. 2 Central Florida Knights, however, stand in the way of that happening. The Knights edged out the Seawolves on Saturday, 9-8, in the first game of the winner's bracket, but under the double-elimination rules of the tournament, Stony Brook had another chance to survive.

On Sunday, Stony Brook eliminated the Missouri St. Bears, 10-7, and then evened the regional series against UCF in a possible elimination game by picking up a 12-5 run. This has forced a decisive Game 7 on Monday night.

This game will take place at Alex Rodriguez Park in Coral Gables, Fla., at 5:00 p.m. MT

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament Scores: LSU Advances To Super Regionals With 6-5 Win Over Oregon State In Extra Innings

It took them extra innings, but the No. 7 national seed LSU Tigers are heading to the Super Regionals of the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament following Sunday night's 6-5 victory over the Oregon St. Beavers. Shortstop Austin Nola, a former Colorado Rockies draft pick, led off the top of the 10th inning with a walk and reached third on JaCoby Jones' double. Oregon St. pitcher Dylan Davis threw a wild pitch with Mason Katz at the plate, allowing Nola to score and Jones to move to third base. After the Tigers were unable to do anything with the bases loaded, Nick Goody came in for the bottom of the 10th and struck out the side to end the game.

The Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the top of the first inning on a Katz single and a Raph Rhymes two-run home run. But the Beavers went on to score five straight runs off of Ryan Eades, former Colorado Rockies draft pick. Eades lasted 5.2 innings, gave up nine hits and struck out five batters.

LSU added a run in the seventh inning to cut the score to 5-4, but the team had to wait until the top of the ninth to tie the game. Ty Ross led off the inning with a 404-foot double to center field and got replaced by Jared Foster as a pinch runner. Alex Edward followed with a double to left center field to tie the game at five.

The Tigers defeated the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks on Friday and the Beavers on Saturday before Sunday night's Baton Rouge, La., regional title game.

LSU will face the winner of Monday's UCF-Stony Brook contest in the Super Regionals next weekend.

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament Scores: Oregon State Downs La.-Monroe, 11-2, Will Face LSU On Sunday Night

The LSU Tigers will face the Oregon St. Beavers on Sunday night for the second time in as many days during the regional round of the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament. The Beavers lost to LSU on Saturday night, 7-1, and went to the loser's bracket to face the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks on Sunday afternoon in an elimination game. The Beavers dominated the Warhawks in an 11-2 victory.

Oregon St. pitcher Ben Wetzler threw 8.2 innings, allowing both runs on eight hits and three walks. He struck out eight. That first run was unearned due to an error by John Tommasini in the third inning on a ball hit by Joey Rapp. Carlos Rodriguez recorded the final out, but not before a wild pitch allowed the second run to score (charged to Wetzler since he put the baserunner on that scored).

Michael Conforto went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI while Tyler Smith went 2-for-5 with a triple and three RBI.

The LSU-OSU contest will start at 5:30 p.m. MT. Ryan Eades, a former Colorado Rockies draft pick in 2010, will start for LSU.

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament Scores: Kevin Gausman, LSU Defeat Oregon State, 7-1

The LSU Tigers are one win away from advancing to the Super Regionals in the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament following Saturday evening's 7-1 victory over the Oregon St. Beavers. Colorado native P Kevin Gausman picked up the victory LSU by throwing eight inning of one-run ball.

LSU never trailed in this game, first taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. The Tigers extended that lead to 4-1 at the end of the third inning. NCAA Baseball Tournament 2012 Scores: La.-Monroe Eliminates Belmont, 6-3

The No. 4 Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks remain alive in the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament following a 6-3 victory over the No. 3 Belmont Bruins on Saturday afternoon. Both teams entered the loser's bracket when they lost to No. 1 LSU (Warhawks) and No. 2 Oregon State (Bruins) on Friday.

The Warhawks and the Bruins battled to a 3-3 tie until the bottom of the eighth. That's when Les Aulds hit an RBI groundout and Jeremy Sy added a two-run single. Sy scored earlier in the game on a ground out after reaching base on a triple. A wild pitch and a sacrifice fly accounted for the other two Warhawk runs.

Belmont got to Louisiana-Monroe starter Cale Wine in the fifth inning with a couple of singles and a sac fly. Kendall Thamm was actually the pitcher on the mound when the third run scored, but he went on to allow just one hit in the remaining 4.2 innings.

Louisiana-Monroe waits for the loser of Saturday night's LSU-Oregon St. contest. Those two teams will play on Sunday afternoon and then play the winner of the Saturday nightcap on Sunday night (and possibly Monday should the undefeated team lose the Sunday evening game).

The Miami Hurricanes, a No. 1 seed in the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament and regional host in Coral Gables, Fla., are now out of postseason playing following their second loss in the opening double-elimination Regionals round. The No. 3 Missouri St. Bears defeated Miami, 12-2.

Arvada, CO, native Pierce Johnson took the mound for the Bears and threw eight innings of two-run ball while striking out seven. He allowed the two runs on a Chantz Mack groundout and a Peter O'Brien single in the third inning. O'Brien was the Colorado Rockies' 2011 draft pick, but he elected to return to college and transfer from Bethune-Cookman to Miami.

The Bears have survived to stay alive in the lower portion of this bracket and await the loser of Saturday night's contest between No. 2 UCF and No. 4 Stony Brook (the former defeating Missouri State on Friday and the latter upending Miami that day). NCAA Baseball Tournament 2012, Florida Vs. Georgia Tech: Game Time, TV Schedule And More

The No. 1 national seed Florida Gators had quite the start to the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament with sophomore Jonathon Crawford throwing a no-hitter in the 4-0 victory over the No. 4 Bethune-Cookman Wildcats. Other players of interest in this game are Florida catcher Mike Zunino and former Colorado Rockies draftees OF Preston Tucker (2011, Florida) and OF Brandon Thomas (2009, Tech). Thomas drove in three on a home run in the Yellow Jackets' 8-4 victory over College of Charleston.

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament Results, LSU Vs. La.-Monroe: Aaron Nola Strikes Out 10 In LSU's 4-1 Victory

The No. 7 national seed LSU Tigers defeated the No. 4 seed Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks in Game 2 of the Baton Rouge, La., regional on Friday night, 4-1. Freshman pitcher Aaron Nola led the way with 10 strikeouts over eight innings. He allowed one run on four hits, giving up that lone run on a couple of singles and a groundout in the third inning.

Shortstop Austin Nola, Aaron's older brother and one-time Colorado Rockies draftee, drove in two runs, one on a sacrifice fly in the third inning and the other on a double in the seventh inning. Third baseman Tyler Hanover drove in the other two runs on a single in the seventh.

Now in the winner's bracket of this double-elimination round, LSU is back on the diamond on Saturday night (6.p.m. MT) to face the No. 2 Oregon St. Beavers. Oregon St. defeated the No. 4 Belmont Bruins earlier in the day, 2-1.

2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament: No. 1 National Seed Florida Takes On Bethune-Cookman

When Florida Gators outfielder Preston Tucker turned down a chance to sign with the Colorado Rockies in 2011, he went back to school and reinforced one of the top teams in the nation. Tucker joined catcher Mike Zunino, the top position prospect in the 2012 MLB Draft, and pitchers Brian Johnson and Hudson Randall to form the core of a team that played its way to being the No. 1 national seed in the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

Tucker is hitting .312/.395/.573 with 14 home runs and 44 RBI through 60 games. He will lead the Gainesville regional's No. 1-seeded Gators against the No. 4-seede Bethune-Cookman Wildcats on Friday night.

The Wildcats made the tournament by winning the MEAC Tournament, but the offense isn't quite as powerful as it has been in years past. Florida's pitching gives a big edge to the Gators.

The winner of this game faces Georgia Tech while the lose goes up against the College of Charleston.

Game time: 5:00 p.m. MT
TV: ESPN3

NCAA Baseball Tournament 2012, LSU Vs. Louisiana-Monroe: Game Time, TV Schedule And More

The top-seeded (No. 7 national seed) LSU Tigers open play in the 2012 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship on Friday with a match-up against the fourth-seeded Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks in Baton Rouge. With arguably the best pitcher in the nation in Colorado native Kevin Gausman, the Tigers are looking for their seventh national title in history and their first since 2009.

But on Friday, it will be freshman Aaron Nola taking the mound for the Tigers. This LSU team also features former Colorado Rockies draftees SS Austin Nola (2008, 48th round) and RHP Ryan Eades (2010, 19th round). Head over to LSU's official site for quotes and more on this game.

The Tigers won the SEC regular season championship earlier this year to enter the NCAA's with a 43-16 record, which makes UL-Monroe's 30-28 record pale in comparison. The Warhawks snagged the Sun Belt Conference title to earn a spot in the regional, which also includes the second-seeded Oregon State Beavers and the third-seeded Belmont Bruins.

The regional is double-elimination, so the Tigers should be prepared to play either the Beavers or Bruins later this weekend. Expectations should be high around Baton Rouge even after last year's disappointment.

Game Date & Time: Friday, June 1, 6:00 p.m. MT

Location: Alex Box Stadium, Baton Rouge, La.

TV/Radio: Cox Sports Television, Comcast Sports Southeast, WDGL 98.1 FM

NCAA College Baseball Tournament 2012: No. 1 LSU Tigers Will Face No. 4 Louisiana-Monroe

The LSU Tigers are the No. 7 national seed in the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament following Monday's announcement, but who will they play and who might they play if they advance to the Super Regionals?

Related: 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament: Kevin Gausman, LSU Are No. 7 National Seed

They will face the No. 4 Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks, but this is not a single-elimination round, recall. The other teams in this regional are the No. 3 Belmont Bruins and the No. 2 Oregon St. Beavers. The Tigers will need to be ready for either team in the next round of the regional.

Should the Tigers advance to the Super Regionals, they could face one of the following teams: No. 1 Miami Hurricanes, No. 2 UCF Knights, No. 3 Missouri St. Bears or No. 4 Stony Brook. Colorado native Pierce Johnson pitches for Missouri State.

Can LSU, one year after not making the tournament, reach the Super Regionals and ultimately the College World Series? Find out when the tournament begins on June 1.

NCAA College Baseball Tournament 2012: Kevin Gausman's LSU Tigers Are The No. 7 National Seed

The 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament Field of 64 is in the process of being announced and Kevin Gausman and his LSU Tigers are one of the eight national No. 1 seeds at No. 7. They will host, as a No. 1 regional seed, the Baton Rouge regional. As the bracket is revealed, check back to see who LSU has in its regional.

The eight No. 1 national seeds are:

1. Florida Gators
2. UCLA Bruins
3. Florida St. Seminoles
4. Baylor Bears
5. Oregon Ducks
6. North Carolina Tar Heels
7. LSU Tigers
8. South Carolina Gamecocks

Notes: South Carolina is the two-time-defending College World Series champions. Florida features Preston Tucker, a 2011 Colorado Rockies draft pick who elected to not sign with the team last summer.

The opening round is double-elimination, so no team is out until they take two losses. Once a regional is won by a team they advance to the Super Regionals. After that round, there is the College World Series in Omaha.

NCAA Baseball Tournament 2012 Selection Show: Time, TV Schedule And More

The 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament Selection Show highlights Memorial Day with the announcement of the full field of 64 teams. On Sunday afternoon, the 16 host sites were announced for the regional round. Colorado native Kevin Gausman and his LSU Tigers are already in the field as one of the 16 hosts, but they are waiting to see if they will receive one of the eight national seeds. This seems likely given its 43-16 record and high standing in the polls.

ESPN's Jeremy Mills has LSU as the No. 4 national seed in his latest bracketology update, hosting the Louisville Cardinals, the Southeastern Louisiana Lions and the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks. Given that the Selection Committee's prefers to lessen travel for these regionals, this could very well be the set up.

Also of note, Colorado native Pierce Johnson and the Missouri St. Bears are looking to be a No. 3 or No. 4 seed. They are projected by Mills as a No. 3 seed in No. 1 UCLA's regional.

The Utah Valley Wolverines are hoping for one of the last spots in the tournament. Despite a 47-12 record, the Wolverines don't have an automatic bid after winning the Great West Tournament since the conference doesn't hold one of the confirmed spots in field. They did have a 32-game winning streak during the season before a mid-May loss to the Utah Utes.
