Giro d'Italia 2012 Stage 9: Cyclists Escape From Mountains For A Day

Stay connected for news and updates

The 2012 Giro d'Italia has left the mountains for the time being and will have Stage 9 run from San Giorgio nel Sannio to Frosinone. This 166 km route is a mostly flat stage that has a couple of small hills to tackle. After spending three days in the mountains, the riders will surely be glad to take on this stage.

The last several kilometers will provide a rather interesting finish. There is a two kilometer descent at a four percent gradient before the dip in the course begins to rise. With the elevation going up over the last kilometer or two, there should be a sprint to the finish.

Barring a complete breakdown, Garmin-Barracuda's Ryder Hesjedal, the current maglia rosa (pink jersey) wearer, should be able to maintain the lead in the general classification.

Start time: 5:20 a.m. MT
Projected finish: 9:17 a.m. MT
TV: Universal Sports has the broadcast at 7:30 a.m. MT. Steephill.tv has other online streaming options.
