Stay connected for news and updates

Point will be at a premium for the Colorado Avalanche every game until the end of the season, and that's particularly the case when facing a team like the Calgary Flames, one of four other teams vying for the final two playoff spots int he Western Conference with the Avalanche. Heading into the third period, the Avalanche and Flames are tied 1-1. There were no goals in the second period.

The game has been relatively even across the board. Colorado has out-shot Calgary 22-20, while the Flames hold an edge in hits (18-15) and faceoff wins (17-13).

There was just one penalty in the second, the first of the game. Colorado's Mark Olver was whistled for slashing on Calgary's Curtis Glencross, earning a two minute penalty. The Avalanche would kill off the power play attack of the Flames.
