Tonight at the Pepsi Center in Denver, the Women's NCAA Tournament will have its dramatic final act when the Baylor Lady Bears attempt to complete an undefeated season against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Both teams are top seeds. Baylor enters 39-0 behind star center Brittney Griner, while Notre Dame is playing in its second consecutive title game. Notre Dame lost to Texas A&M in the championship game last season.
When these two teams played in November, Baylor won 94-81 behind 32 points and 14 rebounds from Griner.
The game should feature an interesting contradiction in styles. While Baylor will try to find its star center Griner, Notre Dame has gotten this far by being proficient outside shooters.

The No. 1 Baylor Bears improved to 39-0 on Sunday night and will face the No. 1 Notre Dame Fighting Irish at the Pepsi Center on Tuesday night for the 2012 NCAA Tournament title. Baylor can win its second NCAA Tournament title, last winning in 2005.
After playing a close first half (25-23, Baylor), the Bears pulled away by outscoring the Cardinal, 34-24. Brittney Griner wasn't the best player on the court, that title belonged to Stanford's Nnemkadi Ogwumike, but she tied for the team lead in points at 13 with Terran Condrey. Odyssey Sims chipped in 11 points. Destiny Williams led all with 10 rebounds.
Ogwumike scored 22 points and pulled down nine boards, but no one else from the Cardinal was able to do much more. Toni Kokenis was second on the team with nine points.

The first game of the 2012 women's college basketball Final Four did not disappoint, as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Connecticut Huskies battled all the way into overtime before the Irish eventually pulled away for an 83-75 victory.
UConn rallied with a late 8-2 run to tie the score at 67 heading into overtime, and the Huskies got off to a good start in the extra period before Notre Dame ran away with the game.
The Huskies went up 70-67 on Bria Hartley’s 3-pointer to open the first overtime at the women’s Final Four since 2006, but [Brittany] Mallory hit back-to-back 3s and Notre Dame closed with a 16-5 run.

The two top women's teams in the country, at least by ranking, won't play each other in this year's championship game. That match up will take place on Sunday night in the quarterfinals, when the top ranked Baylor Bears take on the Stanford Cardinal in the game's marquee match up.
The night's other match up between the Connecticut Huskies and Notre Dame Fighting Irish may have the name recognition, but it's this one that features the star power. Brittany Griner is not only the consensus top women's player in the nation, but she's also the biggest star that the sport has produced in years. It's unlikely that she'll steamroll the Cardinal, though, as Stanford boasts maybe the country's second best player in forward Nnemkadi Ogwumike. Ogwumike averaged 22.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, which matches up favorably with Griner's line of 23.4 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. Griner, though, does of course lead the NCAA in blocks with just over five a game.

The battle between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Connecticut Huskies for Big East supremacy was one of the most compelling storylines in women's basketball this year, and the final act will be played out today in the opening game of the Women's Final Four. The Irish swept the regular season series vs. the Huskies— which is something that very few teams in any given year can say— but UConn claimed a 63-54 victory in the Big East Title game on March 6.
The Irish go as go Skylar Diggins and Natalie Novosel, and that was truer against the Huskies than any opponent this season. In Notre Dame's two victories over UConn, Diggins and Novosel each averaged 21 points per game, but in their loss in the Big East Tournament, the two only scored a combined 24 points. The game may also hinge on the rebounding battle, as the Huskies dominated the Irish on the glass in their last meeting after Notre Dame had won the rebounding battle by 11 in their final regular season meeting.

The schedule is in place for the Final Four of this year's NCAA Women's Tournament, and it's going to be a battle of No. 1 seeds at the Pepsi Center in Denver. In a tournament where the great teams have essentially avoided any upsets at all whatsoever, every single regional final saw the No. 1 beat the region's No. 2 seed.
What that means is that fans journeying to the Pepsi Center for Sunday's games should be treated to match-ups between the absolute best teams in the entire country, all of which also happen to be playing some very solid basketball these days.
Things start off on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. EST when the Connecticut Huskies take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a battle of Big East stalwarts. Notre Dame went 15-1 against conference opponents during the regular season, with its only loss coming to UConn, 63-54, in the Big East Conference Title Game.
Following that game, the Stanford Cardinal will face off against the Baylor Bears in a match-up of teams that combined to lose just one game all season. Baylor is hoping to finish off a dominant season without losing a single game, while Stanford has won 32 straight games since losing to UConn on Nov. 21.
