The Patriots scored in not even four full minutes of play during the start of the third quarter. Tom Brady led an eight-play, 79-yard drive that ended with Aaron Hernandez catching a 12-yard touchdown pass.
Lawrence Tynes kicked a field goal to cut the score to 17-12, but it Tynes made it close one. It hugged the left upright as it went through. Then with about 70 seconds left in the third quarter, Eli Manning and the Giants were inside the Patriots' 20-yard line. However, on 3rd-and-8, Manning was unable to convert. Tynes kicked another field goal to make it a two-point game.
