In a relatively uneventful first period on Sunday night, neither the Colorado Avalanche nor the Winnipeg Jets were able to light the lamp, and the only power play opportunity of the period belonged to the Jets following a high sticking double minor called on Paul Stastny.

Winnipeg finished the period with seven shots on net, while the Avs had six. Colorado won six of 11 faceoffs in the opening period and also out-hit the Jets 23-18.
It's an important game and stretch of the season for both teams, as both are very much in playoff contention but not in the top eight in their respective conferences right now.
