Luke Del Rio has decided to transfer to Valor Christian in Colorado. His father, Jack Del Rio, is the offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos.
When the Denver Broncos hired Jack Del Rio as their defensive coordinator, the move prompted a companion move prep star quarterback Luke Del Rio (Jack's son) to a Denver-area high school. The 6'2", 190-pound quarterback had been deciding between Cherry Creek, Valor Christian, Regis Jesuit and Grandview high schools in Denver, but the athletic director at Valor Christian announced Del Rio officially enrolled at their school on Tuesday, as reported by Ryan Casey of the Denver Post.
There should be plenty of opportunity for Del Rio to make his mark with the Eagles. Casey points out they are coming off an undefeated season (14-0), have won three consecutive state championships, graduated their top two quarterbacks, and are making the move up to Class 5A next season.
After throwing 2,530 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2011 for Episcopal High School in Jacksonville, FL, he has drawn recruiting interest from the Alabama Crimson Tide, Duke Blue Devils, Florida State Seminoles, North Carolina Tar Heels, Southern Miss Golden Eagles and USC Trojans, according to Rivals.com.

The Denver Broncos picked up a defensive coordinator in Jack Del Rio a little over a week ago, but the Colorado high school football scene also picked up Jack's kid, Luke, a soon-to-be highly-sough quarterback recruit. Luke and the rest of the Del Rio family are moving with Jack to Denver, and Luke is close to choosing a school, according to Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post.
Del Rio is reportedly choosing between Cherry Creek and private school at Valor Christian. At Valor Christian, Jones writes, Del Rio would be able to play with the sons of Ed McCaffrey and Brian Dawkins, Christian and Brian Jr.
With his father's background as a coach and a former NFL player, Luke is likely to become a top target for schools around the country. Already he has received interest from schools in the Southeast. His father played for the USC Trojans, which has led to speculation that he could also be recruited to there.

When the Denver Broncos named longtime Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio their new defensive coordinator, the move affected more than just the Broncos' defense. Del Rio's family was also forced to make the move from Florida to Colorado, a family that includes one highly-touted high school quarterback.
Luke Del Rio is a major college football recruit, but first he must play his senior season of high school ball. According to KUSA-TV's Drew Soicher, the junior Del Rio is currently contemplating three local schools.

The 2012-2013 college football recruiting class will include Luke Del Rio, the son of Denver Broncos new defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio. The entire family is moving to Denver and father and son are already looking at schools in the Denver area, the coach said during Monday's conference call with the press.
Del Rio transferred to Episcopal High School in Jacksonville, FL, for the 2011 season and threw for 2,530 yards and 20 touchdowns. He did throw 18 interceptions, but his coach believes that Del Rio was trying to force plays on many of those throws.
Rivals.com lists six schools as currently interested in Del Rio: Alabama, Duke, Florida State, North Carolina, Southern Miss and USC. The latter school was where his father played his college football. With National Signing Day for the 2012 class of recruits just two days away on Feb. 1, Del Rio's recruitment will certainly pick up soon enough.

Luke Del Rio Update: QB Invited To Elite 11, Reportedly Takes Visit To Colorado
When Jack Del Rio took the job as the defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos, few people considered the impact that decision could have on the local high school football scene. However, after a strong performance at the Elite 11 camp at the Columbus regional, Luke Del Rio may have cemented himself as the top prep QB in the state of Colorado.
Del Rio was so impressive in Columbus that he earned an invitation to the Elite 11 Finals, which includes the top QB prospects from across the country. Del Rio, who at this point only holds offers from Colorado St. and Oregon St. told Jon Mahoney of ESPNHS.com how much this invite meant to him:
With that added attention, it should only be a matter of time before Del Rio receives more offers. Might he receive one from Jon Embree and the Colorado Buffaloes? He and his father made an unofficial visit to Boulder, according to Lindsay Jones at the Denver Post:
With Colorado State already handing out an offer, the Buffs might want to compete with the Rams in trying to keep some talent inside the state borders.
