Kansas State and Oregon, Nos. 1 and 2 in the BCS rankings, will drop out of those spots on Sunday when the latest polls and standings are released.
It won't be the usual luck of the Irish on Sunday when the latest top 25 polls and the BCS rankings are released: the current-No. 3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish will be the No. 1 team in all of those spots following Sunday's wild happenings. Notre Dame moved to 11-0 following its 38-0 thrashing of Wake Forest and then saw No. 1 Kansas State and No. 2 Oregon lose.
Kansas State couldn't stop the Baylor Bears in a 52-24 loss, allowing 342 rushing yards and five touchdowns on the ground. Loveland, Colo., native and starting quarterback Collin Klein completed just 27-of-50 passes and threw three interceptions for the Wildcats. Oregon's high-octane offense had trouble doing much against Stanford and lost in overtime, 17-14.
With Notre Dame ready to rise to No. 1, which two teams will move up and take Nos. 2 and 3? Alabama, the previous No. 1 before a loss to Texas A&M, and Georgia, currently sitting at Nos. 4 and 5. A Kansas State-Alabama BCS title game looks to be in the cards for the moment, and it will most certainly contain an SEC team, as Alabama and Georgia will face off in the SEC title game (provided Alabama beats Auburn in its regular season finale). Winner heads to the BCS.
Notre Dame, however, does need to beat USC on the road on Nov. 24 to secure its BCS title shot. Even with USC's 38-28 loss to UCLA on Saturday, the Trojans will be a formidable foe for Notre Dame to overcome.
Samuel Chi's BCS standings projections have Notre Dame, Alabama, Georgia, Florida and Kansas State as the top five teams.
