The FCS Top 25 experienced a major shakeup over the weekend with the top three teams all losing. In the wake of that, the Big Sky's Eastern Washington Eagles moved up to No. 1.
The Sports Network's FCS Top 25 Poll has a new No. 1 following a wild weekend of action. The Big Sky Conference's Eastern Washington Eagles are the new No. 1 team in the nation. The Eagles beat then-No. 2 Montana State, 27-24, on Saturday to improve to 5-1.
The James Madison Dukes (5-1) moved up to No. 2 after defeating William & Mary in double overtime, 27-26. Georgia Southern took the No. 3 spot with a 17-9 victory over Wofford.
Former No. 1 North Dakota State, the reigning FCS champions, lost to Indiana State, 17-14, and dropped to No. 4. Montana State followed at No. 5 and former No. 3 Old Dominion came in at No. 7. Sam Houston State moved up three spots to No. 6.
Eastern Washington took 92 first-place votes, but eight other teams received at least one first-place votes. James Madison had the second most with 42. Big Sky member Cal Poly (6-0) defeated Northern Colorado to move up one spot to No. 14 and garnered three first-place votes.
