The first release of the BCS rankings has the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Florida Gators playing for the national championship at Sun Life Stadium on Jan 7, 2013. Both teams are currently 6-0 and at or near the top of the polls. Alabama is No. 1 in both the Coaches and Harris polls, which are components of the BCS formula. Florida is No. 3 in the Harris Poll and No. 4 in the Coaches Poll.
Oregon came in at No. 3 to some surprise. At 6-0 and No. 2 in the Coaches and Harris polls, Oregon was looking for that initial No. 2 BCS spot, but the computers aren't favorable for them.
The Boise St. Broncos enter the BCS standings at No. 22, the only team from a non-BCS conference in the initial rankings. As long as they don't lose again (season-opening loss to Michigan State), the Broncos should get into the top 16 of the BCS rankings and take an automatic berth in one of the bowls. The Saturday, Dec. 1, contest with Nevada might be the toughest contest left on the schedule. In a Nov. 2010 game against Nevada, Boise State missed a field goal at the end of regulation and in overtime to lose a shot at the BCS title game. While the title game is out of reach this year, the Broncos want to get into the BCS in the post-Kellen Moore era.
