The Salt River Rafters extended their Arizona Fall League season-opening win streak to three games with a thrilling 6-5 walk-off victory over the Scottsdale Scorpions on Thursday night. The Rafters got on the board early, when an Andy Wilkins first-inning double brought home Carlos Sanchez. Scottsdale answered with a two-run single in the third by Ricky Oropesa, and added another run on an RBI single by Gary Brown in the top of the fourth. Salt River immediately responded with two RBI singles in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game. A Carlos Sanchez single in the bottom of the seventh gave Salt River a 4-3 lead.
After a delay in the top of the eighth, Scottsdale found their offense. The Scorpions scored one in the eighth on a Randal Grichuk RBI single to tie the game at four, then went ahead in the top of the ninth when a Gary Brown fly ball single brought home Ronny Rodriguez.
Buddy Boshers entered the game to pitch the bottom of the ninth for Scottsdale and promptly gave up a solo home run to Brian Goodwin that tied the game for the fourth time. Boshers then issued a pair of walks and gave up a single to load the bases. Andy Wilkins lined a single to center, and Jake Marisnick came home with the winning run.
Salt River starter Ryan Perry threw three innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits. Reliever Eric Smith got the win. Boshers picked up a loss and a blown save for his disastrous ninth inning.
